“Yeah?” I scoffed. “You wanna know why?”
“Why?”
“’Cause she with me.”
I let that shit for a second.
“I’m Kyrie Maddox. Cameras follow me. Blogs make money off my name. Muthafuckas wake up every day, looking for a reason to drag me. So, if they can’t get to me directly, they’ll go after the woman laying next to me.”
“I understand,” he finally muttered.
“Damn right you understand.”
I pulled the phone away from my ear for a second, shook my head, then brought it back.
“Now get the fuck off my phone and go do your damn job. Figure out who took those pictures instead of calling me with a bunch of bullshit.”
I ended the call before he could say another word, then tossed it back on the nightstand and looked down at Sianni sleeping peacefully against my chest.
A small smile tugged at my lips as I brushed a few strands of hair from her face.
“They got the right one,” I muttered under my breath. “We gon’ find out who the fuck did this, and I’m gon’ deal with they ass my way.”
I kissed her forehead before pulling her a little closer. As soon as I did, she shifted against my chest, letting out a sleepy sigh.
“Baby… is everything alright?” she mumbled, her voice thick with sleep.
“Yeah. Everything good, baby,” I lied.
The last thing I wanted was for her to start stressing. She already had enough on her plate. Between carrying our baby and dealing with all this unwanted attention, I wasn’t about to dump another problem in her lap.
“I guess…” she whispered. “But who was you yelling at?”
“My agent.”
She lifted her head just enough to look up at me, sleep no longer clouding her pretty eyes.
“Is everything alright?”
“Yeah,” I answered with a sigh. “Everything alright.”
“Kyrie.” She held my gaze for a second before shaking her head. “I don’t believe you.”
I looked away for a moment, dragging my hand up and down her back. She knew me to damn well.
“Baby, I swear everything good.”
“No, it ain’t.” Her voice stayed soft, but there wasn’t an ounce of doubt in it. “You was doing way too much yelling for everything to be good.”
She searched my face, like she was trying to read every thought running through my head.
“And if this got something to do with me…”
Her voice trailed off.
“I’m sorry.”
I frowned.
