I swallowed.
“I… parked, went inside, and grabbed a buggy.”
“Anybody recognize you?”
“I don’t think so.”
“You sure?”
I nodded. “As far as I know.”
His eyes never left mine.
“Anybody ask you for a picture?”
“No.”
“Anybody keep ending up in the same aisle as you?”
I searched my memory.
“No.”
“You bump into anybody?”
“I don’t remember.”
He leaned back just enough to think.
“Anybody acting strange?”
I shook my head.
“No.”
Silence settled over the table. Drayla glanced between the two of us before speaking.
“If those pictures came from Walmart, then whoever did it ain’t just get lucky.”
Kyrie’s attention shifted to her for the first time.
“I know.”
His eyes came right back to me.
“When the last time you talked to Amani?”
“The last time I called him before we got fully together.”
“He called you since then?”
“No.”
“Text?”
I shook my head. “No. I blocked him, remember?”
