“Bet.”

I picked out a couple canvases, then helped him grab what he needed. Of course, Kyrie acted like he didn’t need half the shit I told him to get because, apparently, the man who had never painted a damn thing in his life suddenly knew more than me.

By the time we made it to the register, our basket had turned into a cart, and somehow, I had ended up with way more shit than I originally planned to buy.

Kyrie looked inside before cutting his eyes at me.

“Thought we came in here to get me some shit.”

“We did.”

“So, where the fuck all this come from?”

I shrugged. “It jumped in the cart.”

“Uh-huh.”

“It did.”

“Just like all them damn bags jumped in the house the other day?”

“Exactly.”

He shook his head as he pulled out his wallet.

“Your ass expensive.”

“And yet you keep me.”

Kyrie looked over at me, a slow smirk spreading across his face.

“Damn right.”

I smiled as I turned toward the register.

For somebody who didn’t know shit about art, he had just spent damn near an hour following me around an art store, listening to me explain paint, brushes, and canvases while talking shit the entire time.

And now his big ass wanted me to teach him how to paint. I couldn’t wait to see how the hell this was about to go.

About an hour later, I was back home in my art room, setting everything up while Kyrie sat in front of his blank canvas, looking way too damn confident for someone whose last painting looked like it belonged on someone’s refrigerator.

“You ready?”

“Been ready.”

I moved my chair a little closer to his and started explaining what we were going to paint. I deliberately chose something that wasn’t too complicated, but I wasn’t about to insult the man by giving him some elementary shit.

I showed him which colors we needed and how I wanted him to start laying down his background. To my surprise, Kyrie actually sat there and listened without interrupting me every five damn seconds.

At least until I finished.

“Aight, I got it.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah.”
