“And?”
“Kyrie!”
“What?” He laughed. “You spoiled too.”
“I am not spoiled.”
His eyebrows lifted.
I immediately looked toward the pile of shopping bags around us. Kyrie followed my eyes before looking back at me with the biggest shit-eating grin.
“Exactly.”
“Shut up.”
He laughed and reached for me, pulling me back against his side.
And as I sat there tucked underneath his arm with that tiny outfit still resting in his hand, I couldn't help but smile.
For once, there were no blogs, no fake-marriage rumors, no Amani, and no outside bullshit sitting between us.
It was just me, Kyrie, and the little life we had created together. And I liked us like this. Because I felt like it was going to make us a lot stronger as a whole and as a future family. Hell, it was going to give me a chance to even try to be a mother because I was afraid to even have a kid after what happened with my first one.
By eight the next morning, I was already back at the training facility, questioning why the fuck I had agreed to this early-ass rehab session.
“Come on, Kyrie. Two more.”
I sucked my teeth but pushed through another rep, feeling the pull in my arm as I did what the hell he told me to do.
“One.”
“Nigga, you just said two.”
He laughed. “That was one. You got another.”
I cut my eyes at him.
“I know how to fucking count.”
“Then stop talking and give me one more.”
“Man, fuck you.”
He shook his head, already used to my attitude. I didn’t see shit funny about what I said.
“Aight, man, finish what you doing.” He watched me push through another rep before giving me a nod. “But you’ve actually been doing good. Keep progressing like this, and we can start working toward getting you back on the field.”
That got my attention. I stopped what I was doing and looked over at him. “How soon are we talking?”
“Here you go.”
“Nawl, fuck all that.” I sat up straighter. “You just said I’m getting back on the field. How soon?”
He laughed. “I said we can start working toward it. Don’t get ahead of yourself.”
“Man, that’s close enough for me.”
A grin pulled at my lips as I grabbed the weight again and got back to work. Shit, that was all I needed to hear.
