The man jerked her backward.

She cried out.

“Stop talking!”

I climbed another step.

A bullet struck the wall beside my head.

“I said stop!”

I dropped behind the stairwell.

The angle told me he was standing on the port side of the flybridge.

Hazel was between us.

I couldn’t take the shot.

John might be able to reach them from outside.

If the smoke didn’t reveal him first.

A door slammed below deck.

Ben’s voice rose through the salon.

“Ward!”

He ran toward me with Ivy and Willow behind him.

Both sisters were soaked in engine oil and seawater.

Ivy carried a heavy wrench.

Willow held a flare gun.

Ben had found them armed.

I wasn’t surprised.

“Where are the other men?” I asked.

“Two unconscious in the engine room,” Ben answered.

I looked at the sisters.

Ivy lifted the wrench.

“They shouldn’t have touched Grandpa’s engines.”

Willow raised the flare gun.
