“The cameras at the gas station have caught movement and sent a warning to my phone. You know the three of us linked our phones to the camera alarm system today, well it seems we did it just in time. We’ll meet you at the gas station,” Collins throws all that out quickly and cuts the call before I have time to ask a question.

Getting out of the clubhouse takes only a few minutes. I jump onto my hog and head out fast. Jet opens the gate for me to pass through and gives me a questioning look, but I don’t wait to give him any instructions. I head to the gas station as fast as I can.

Pulling into the gas station, I immediately see Collins with a man beneath him. I say that because he literally has the man on the ground and a knee in-between his shoulders holding him down. Mitchell has a man knocked out on the ground in front of him, while Xero is standing in front of the door to the store.

“What’s going on?” I ask as I step away from my hog and over to Xero.

“These two fuckers thought they could break in and steal whatever they wanted to take. But they are going to learn it’s not going to happen,” Xero bends down to the one under Collins, “you know this is something you shouldn’t have even tried to do. We take it personally when someone tries to steal what is ours. You are going to pay the price now.”

We all turn when we hear a vehicle pulling into the gas station. Seeing its Tracker driving the club's van has me standing with my mouth hanging open. What the fuck is Pres doing?

Jumping out of the van, Tracker gives a grin that would have anyone pissing their pants. “Well, well, what do we have here?” Tracker asks as he steps over to the asshole under Collins.

“Let us go. We took nothing,” the stupid asshole says, and I don’t even try to hide the fact that I’m finding this amusing.

“You took nothing? Oh, that makes it okay then,” Tracker winks at me over his shoulder.

“Yeah, we didn’t touch nothin’. Let us go and we’ll never come back.”

“Put them in the van,” Tracker states coldly, and the idiot under Collins starts to thrash around in his panic.

I stand back and watch Collins, Mitchell, and Xero get the two idiots into the van. Tracker is humming under his breath, and any fool would say nothing when they see the look on his face. He’s enjoying this, and you’d not even recognize this as the same man that was feeding Ayla formula a few hours earlier.

“Secure the building, Truck,” Tracker states as he jumps into the van. “I’ll see you back at the clubhouse.”

“Okay, Pres,” I respond, and it’s the only thing I can think to say because he is whistling with what can only be described as glee as he starts the van and pulls out of the gas station.

Collins chuckles. “I didn’t know you had chains and anchor points in the van. Fuckin’ cool that is. Can we come with you to the clubhouse?”

Shaking my head at him, because honestly, I reckon I have bloodthirsty brothers and future brothers.

Chapter 10

RORY

Sitting in the office with Shelby, I start the conversation that I hope will help Jill. “I hope it was okay to stop by this morning, Shelby. I wanted to speak with you about Jill and her situation at home.”

Shelby relaxes back in her seat behind her desk and squints a little toward me. That isn’t a good sign. “Okay, speak, Rory.”

Oh dear, this isn’t good at all. “You know about Jill’s issue with her family, Shelby. Could we change things slightly so I can ease her issue by collecting her brother from school and bringing him here when I arrive for work. If Jill works the afternoon roster, she’ll not be late in the morning, and she can take her brother home with her,” I keep my tone reasonable, and hope she will consider my idea.

Shelby says nothing for a few minutes. Making me feel a little uncomfortable in the silence. Eventually, Shelby speaks. “Maisy and Marion are the two who work the afternoons. They both asked for those hours when they started. Do you think they should give up their favored hours for someone else?”

I didn’t know that the two women had requested those hours, and if I’m honest, I never considered it as I was thinking of Jill’s situation and not anyone else’s. “No, I don’t, but I think it is worth asking. If they say no, they don’t want to change hours then at least we asked to help Jill’s situation.”

“Okay. You ask them, and if one of them is happy to swap with Jill, I’m good with it. But if they are not, then you do not twist their arms. You accept that it is not happening. I admire that you have thought about the situation and that you are a good enough person to step up. I just can’t condone any way of pushing my ladies to work hours they never wanted.”

“Thank you, Shelby. I will speak to them, and I promise I will not twist arms or make them feel they have to agree.” I give Shelby a serious look, so she knows how honest I am being. “I’m good with the evening work, Shelby. I know the others have families they want to be at home with, and I have no-one waiting at home for me. I’m more than okay with working evenings.”

“Get yourself some refreshments, Rory, while you wait for the afternoon ladies. Jill and Jayne are both here but say nothing to them. I will speak to Jill and Jayne, if or when something happens with the shift roster.” Shelby gives me a nod toward the office door, and I know with that I’m dismissed.

I head into the kitchen where Brian is cooking the lunch menu. “Hi, Brian. Do you have a spare cheeseburger by any chance?”

Brian gives me a nod. “Take that one. I’ll make another quickly for the order. Grab some fries from the basket too.”

“Thank you, Brian,” I say with some relief that I can eat while I wait. I didn’t have breakfast this morning, and after I had run around the park I quickly showered to come here. Hence, my stomach thinks my throat has been cut.

I choose a seat in the diner that is on one side and near the back of the room. The table is out of the way and one that our usual customers don’t frequent. I take a bite of the burger and as I look up the biker from the gas station is standing at the counter watching me. I blush some and quickly wipe my mouth in case mustard is on my lips.
