Of course they had a room me. Rather a villa. Unlike my coworkers, my friends at Cuffed did know about my financial status. At least to some extent. My family did not hide their light under a bushel and were quite well known in wolf circles. So, Talon did not question whether or how I could afford a luxury kink resort in the desert. He just pulled out his phone and held his fingers over his screen .
“When do you want to arrive?”
My mood, which had been dismal verging on cranky when I got here, lifted. “Tomorrow?” I hadn’t even asked where or in what desert this place was located. It just seemed heaven sent. Cuffed and their sister club Crowned were well run and if they were involved, I was sure I’d have a nice time.
“Great. You’ll want the helicopter from the airport? It is drivable but takes a while and most of the guests prefer this service.”
“Yes. That sounds good. I need to see if I can get a flight.”
“Our people can do it all for you if you’ll permit. You can fly commercial or use the semi-private jet service?”
“Not private?” I was only half kidding, but Talon grimaced.
“If you want to but this costs less than a quarter as much, and I hate to throw money away when half the time you end up with the jet to yourself anyway, or the few onboard are going to the club and it’s a chance to maybe make a friend.”
I leaned back and accepted my drink from the server and took a sip. “I guess all I need to know is what time to get to the airport then.”
“The car will pick you up.”
I opened my mouth to argue then stopped. I thought I’d adjusted well to living like a typical detective, but with the frustration I’d been feeling lately, maybe it was time to remember what the alternative was.
“You don’t have to be embarrassed to enjoy a vacation you can easily afford,” Talon said, apparently reading my mind. “Just relax for once.”
“You’re right.” Because what else could I say when someone was correct. He didn’t know every detail of my job because much of it was confidential, but he had heard my postponed vacation story and knew that I clashed with the detective sergeant frequently as of late. “It sounds like just what the healer ordered.”
The next morning I climbed into the town car and sank into the back seat. Talon had sent me a link to the resort so I could see the amenities and grounds, but I hadn’t looked at it yet. I’d stayed at the club later than I probably should have with packing awaiting me as well as other tasks for being away from home, limiting my time.
But I was done and ready to relax. Talon and company would never invest in anything but the best, and as I sat on the semi-private jet with two other travelers I finally opened the file to look at the website.
They were still working on improvements, but it looked pretty amazing so far. Big open grounds with desert landscaping, a main hotel building, a card casino and kink club. And villas set apart from one another, all with their own pools.
“Must be your first trip,” one of the other passengers said. “Nice, isn’t it?”
“Very. I take it you’ve been before?” Shutting down the website, I turned to face the man.
“A few months ago. My omega and I liked it so much, we’re here on our honeymoon.” He chuckled as the other man came to perch on the arm of his chair. “Right, Walter?”
He blushed. “I know it’s a human thing, a honeymoon, but my mate is indulging me.”
The alpha smiled up at him. “I’m all in for celebrating our union. And what better place?”
We talked a few minutes longer before it was time to buckle up for landing and then came the helicopter. My traveling companions boarded it as though they flew on the noisy things every day of the week, making me wonder if one of them came from a family I would have heard of. There weren’t many wolf packs with the kind of money mine had. But it didn’t really matter. I had little to do with any of them anymore.
The helicopter landed, and we were met by two omegas driving golf carts. The others climbed into one, greeting the omega by name, and were driven away. I approached the other cart.
“Hello, sir. I’m Trace, and I’ll be taking you to your villa.”
“Call me Azlan. Do we need to wait for my baggage?” The others hadn’t, but I didn’t know what any of the arrangements were here. I did have my carry-on.
“No. Someone will get them for you.”
“Well then, let’s get going. I’m anxious to see this place.” And ready to relax for the first time in a long time. Even if it meant I missed out on most of the fun things to do.
“If you’d like, we can take a quick tour on the way?”
I looked over at the omega, with his friendly smile and sparling eyes. “I would like that.”
“Then let’s go!”
