Maddox wasn’t just cheating on me. He was cheating on me with multiple women.

Through the tears and shattering pain, rage ignited.

My Maddox, the man I wanted to start a family with, the man I had given all of myself to, the man I had spent the last four years of my life trying to keep happy, the man I had set aside my magic for, had been betraying me with multiple women! I wanted to scream at him! I wanted to rip him apart!

As this rage boiled inside me, something else surged through my body: magic.

“No, not now,” I gasped. I didn’t have anywhere near the focus or the practice to channel this. I tried to suppress it, to push the magic back down, and the effort sent pain burning through me. If I lost control, there was no predicting the results.

This pain was all Maddox’s fault. How could he betray me like this? I wanted him to feel this. Our marriage was my whole life, and in a second, it was gone. He was the one who deserved to feel this. He was the one who should lose what matters most to him.

Indulging that vengeful thought sent me over the edge. My last efforts to maintain control crumbled as the magic surged past the tipping point and exploded out of me.

The room shook violently. I heaved with sobs, screaming as white light burst from my body.

CHAPTER 2

MADDOX

Ileaned into the hot water cascading from the double showerheads, lathering up vigorously. I needed to get out of this house as quickly as possible.

And then a sudden flash of white light, so searing and bright it made me flinch. What was that? A power surge?

Thoughts of what caused the flash were quickly driven from my mind by something much more urgent: a bizarre tingling sensation on my cock. What the hell was happening? It wasn’t like the onset of any STD I’d ever had.

Had Callie bought another stupid new beauty product with diamond flakes or some other bullshit in it? The more ridiculous, pointless, and overpriced a product was, the more likely my wife was to buy it. Crystal shops existed for her.

I grabbed the body wash in irritation, wiping soap from my eyes to inspect the label, but it looked the same as always.

And at that moment, the tingling sensation vanished (and had the lights flickered again for a second there?). All felt normal again. I lifted my shaft, inspecting it for signs of irritation, but there was nothing.

Thank god for that, because Gwen was waiting for me tonight. I couldn’t imagine what kind of cruel universe would knock me out of commission right before my reunion with her. That woman knew how to drive me wild like no other.

I usually kept things simple. A one-night stand here, a short fling there, nothing complicated. But Gwen... from the first minute my dick entered the perfect warmth of her pussy, I knew she was one I’d have to keep coming back to.

She’d been putting me off lately, cycling through the other married guys in her rotation. I’d filled the time, obviously, but none of them had been Gwen.

Her fetish for married men was the weirdest thing. I still didn’t understand it at all, not that I needed to. I was just grateful for it. Sometimes I wondered if I should have more pride than to be one guy in her stable, but then I’d picture that body of hers and get so damn hard…

Honestly, I was a little surprised I wasn’t hard right now, given where my thoughts had gone.

I must be too focused on getting out the door. My dick would show up when he needed to.

I turned off the water and grabbed a towel, catching my reflection as I dried off. I’d worked upper body that morning and couldn’t have been more pleased with how cut and pumped I was looking. Gwen was going to be thrilled.

Poor Callie. She’d clearly had high hopes for the evening, and her sports night idea wasn’t bad. Better than all her other recent gambits to get my attention.

But unlike Gwen, Callie was infinitely forgiving. I loved that about her. Gwen would rip my head off if I were even five minutes late. But Callie would bounce right back from this. She could handle disappointment.

I hustled out into the bedroom to get dressed.

And was surprised to find Callie… sitting on the edge of the bed, hunched over, out of breath and sweating? Had she decided to do a full cheerleader routine while I was in the shower?

She seemed lost in her own breathing, barely noticing me. Her eyes were puffy and red, and her face was flushed.

A pang of sympathy surged in me. She had taken my conflict tonight harder than I thought.

Thinking of how good I’d looked in the mirror just now, I understood why it must sting so badly.
