She rolled over with a sigh and tinkered with the necklace she had concealed beneath her cloak. Against her better judgment, her mind wandered to the last moment she shared with Luka.
They’d climaxed. Their cries of passion were loud and animalistic. She dug her nails into his sculpted chest as his cum warmed her insides.
I have to attend this dreadful meeting, but I’ll be back. For this,” he said, kissing the pendant around her neck, ”and this,” he proclaimed, kissing her swollen lips.
He was barely out the door when she leapt into action. She gave herself the quickest whore’s bath known to man and dressed as fast as lightning before throwing herself out of the window.
She’d be lying if she said she didn’t enjoy her interaction with Luka, but some things were not meant to be. Certainly not a vampire king and huntress.
Weeks Later
“Shit,” Matilda muttered when Belzara slapped a poster on the table before her.
“Do you want to explain why your despicable mug is on this wanted poster?”
“No, not really, but I will say the artist is extremely talented. Look at the texture.”
“You joke, Tilda, but this is no laughing matter! What does King Alesi want with you?”
“I haven’t the slightest idea.”
“You should know why a bounty worth ten thousand gold coins from King Alesi is being placed on your head,” she snarled.
“It could be because of my profession.”
Belzara clicked her tongue.
“He wants you alive.”
“That’s wonderful news.”
“What if it’s because he wants to torture you?”
“You worry too much.”
“You don’t worry enough. You need to leave.”
“And go where?”
“Anywhere but here. The last thing I need is for King Alesi to come knocking at my door.”
Matilda scoffed. “Your concern for my well-being and safety is admirable.”
“I am concerned for your safety, but you’ve heard the stories about how ruthless King Alesi is.”
Matilda snorted. She refrained from expressing that Luka was ruthless in bed but otherwise as soft as cotton.
“We’ve all heard the rumors,” Matilda said instead.
“Then you are aware it is selfish of you to hide here. What if he burns my tavern down? How will I support myself then?”
Matilda sighed before draining the remainder of her ale. “I will not clash with you, Belzara. I do not wish any harm to come to your lovely establishment. I will take my leave.”
She stood from the table and tied her cloak around herself.
“I’m sorry, Tilda,” Belzara apologized meekly.
The front door to the tavern flew open, nearly wrenching off the hinges. Matilda spotted Ezra before he saw her and raced towards the back door. She bumped into patrons and furniture alike, not bothering to apologize or right a fallen chair or table.
