He smiles, shrugs and then drops my hand before pocketing my keys. “Welp, I hope you have a spare key.” He winks before walking back towards the elevator.
What the fuck, “Reed!”
He stops walking and turns back to me, “Change your mind?”
“I don’t have a fucking spare key. Please just give it back.”
“I told you what you had to do to get it.”
My heart beats fast as I contemplate what I’m going to do. My head is all fuzzy from the high. One kiss won’t hurt, right?
Fuck it. I drop my bag on the floor and stalk towards him, not even giving him a chance to say or do anything. I stand on my tiptoes and grab his shirt, pulling him down to my level and crashing my lips to his.
One of his hands snakes to my lower back, and the other lands on my collarbone.
I let out a surprised moan as his tongue invades my mouth. He tastes like cigarettes, peppermint and sin. Is that a tongue ring?
I quickly pull back, out of breath with my heart racing a million miles a minute.
We don’t say anything for a few moments, both staring at each other wondering what the fuck that was. At least I tell myself he’s wondering the same thing, hoping he is.
I shake my head out of the spell and rub my lips together before holding my palm out. “Keys.”
His lips twitch as he pulls the keys out of his pocket and gently puts them in my hand.
He doesn’t say a word as he turns and disappears into the elevator, leaving me standing in the hallway while I process what just happened.
That kiss was everything. A normal person would think this situation was insane, but I catch myself wanting to try it again.
CHAPTER 6
REED
Now that I’ve finished the bed, I decide to work on an end table. I’m using old pallets that I found behind the university and some PVC pipe. I just need to pick up some spray paint on my way to Lexie’s later.
It’s been a week since my lips touched hers.
I let the memory sharpen, turning it over in my head again and again. Dissecting it. Letting it fester.
The way she tasted, and her sweet apple scent still lingers but that’s not what gets to me. It’s the way that she fucking melted into me while kissing me back like it’s something that is a normal occurrence between us. It was like her body chose before she could decide for herself.
Of course, I’ve done my weekly routine of watching her. She goes for coffee at the Dark Roast almost the exact same time every morning. Three days out of the week she works out before getting said coffee, but besides that she’s in class all day before she walks home.
I’ve been finding myself wanting to touch her again. But as much as I want to, I haven’t made a move just yet.
The need to taste her again suddenly becomes overwhelming. I need her.
Maybe it’s time to pay her a visit, and not from a distance this time.
It’s eight o’clock on a Saturday night and a hit or miss if Lexie goes out or stays in.
Pulling up behind her apartment complex, I kill the engine.
There’s two choices, I can either go up and knock on her door, or I can take my chances and climb the fire escape to go through her window.
I decide on the latter, making it up to her window, I peer through the sheer curtains. She probably got those thinking it would be good for sunlight, but they don’t hide shit. The lights are off and I can see her living room furniture through them. Guess she decided to go out tonight.
I tug on the window and it surprisingly opens. “Fuckin hell.” I mutter to myself.
