Wayne waits patiently until Jesse finally answers, “I know one person, but she’s not going to like that I betrayed her.”

“She?” Wayne presses.

Jesse lifts an eyebrow, and it disappears under his hat. “Did you think rogues were all men?”

Becca snorts.

“Well, yeah. I figured all those selling it would be men, yes,” says Draven. He leans forward and places his elbows on the table.

Jesse looks at each of them skeptically, still warring over himself about whether he should continue talking or not.

“We promise not to hurt her, Jesse,” Wayne murmurs.

“What are you going to do to her when you find your evidence?”

Wayne nods his head. It’s a fair question. “We will be leaving that business to Logan, but I’ll stand up for her. You have my word.”

“Will he kill her?” he asks after a short pause. “Because I won’t be involved with something like that. She’s a good person.”

Draven frowns. “If she is such a good person, why would she be involved in this mess?”

Jesse lifts a shoulder and lets it fall. “You’ll have to ask her. I only help her out when I can.”

“With selling?” Becca asks nastily.

“With food and money,” Jesse growls at her. “I know you think you’re better than me, but I can still smell the stench of rogue on you.”

Becca snarls but looks away. Jesse turns his attention back to Draven and Wayne, dismissing her entirely. In all fairness, Becca is being a bitch. She deserves the cold shoulder.

Jesse sighs and rolls his neck. “Come on.” He stands up, and the rest of them follow suit. “I’ll show you to her place.”

“And where, exactly, is that?” Becca grumbles.

“Just around the corner, princess. Worried your heels might break?”

Becca looks at Wayne. “I don’t like this,” she hisses, her manicured fingers curling into fists at her sides.

“We didn’t ask your opinion. Just do as you’re told.”

Her jaw flexes. “Fine.”

He nods his head curtly and starts following Jesse out of the bar. It’s not like Becca has anywhere else to go. He doubts she’d stay in the car or at the bar by herself. He’s just sick of her shit, and clearly, Jesse is growing impatient too, which is the last thing Wayne wants. He doesn’t want Jesse to feel like he’s being disrespected, or he may change his mind about helping them. They need to treat Jesse like a friend, not a low-life piece of shit, the way Becca sees him.

She seems to have forgotten that this was a life she once had chosen.

Once outside, Jesse leads the way with his head downcast. Wayne, Draven, and Becca follow farther behind so that people don’t think they’re together. Jesse hadn’t asked them to, but it was the smarter thing to do.

They round a corner and walk farther down until they come to an abandoned four-story building that’s missing several windows. Jesse stops in front of it, and they all peer at the building.

“This is it?” Wayne eventually asks when Jesse makes no move to go inside.

“Remember what I said about a trap?” Becca grumbles. “Because this sure looks like one.”
