CHAPTER FIFTEEN

“Do you think they’ll like the flowers?” Eme asks as she and Logan head back to the house. They had just dropped off flowers at Jim and Viola’s cafe. The couple wasn’t there. They were home with Clark while he recovers.

Val had suggested that she deliver the flowers herself. It had made Eme nervous because she was still getting to know the pack members. Logan noticed her nerves and offered to go with her. He had praised her for her thoughtfulness.

Without prompting, he constantly reassures her that the pack adores her. But the truth is she doesn’t know if that’s true. She has no reason to believe otherwise. However, she can’t help but feel self-conscious about being alpha, especially since they haven’t mated yet. Especially since Dillon’s trail made an appearance. Since then, she’s had self-doubts. She doesn’t want to cause any trouble, and with his appearance, trouble is stirring.

Logan slides his hand into hers and pecks the top of her head, bringing her back to the present for a moment.

She replays the first time they had sex and how she should have allowed the mating. They wouldn’t be in the mess of Dillon and her newfound nervousness if that were the case. And truth be told, Logan’s a good guy. More than a good guy. She knew that even then.

The house nears as he says, “I think they’ll love them. You shouldn’t worry so much.”

“I know,” she murmurs. “But I do anyway.”

He pulls her against him, and their sides rub against one another as they walk side by side. “You’re a good woman, Eme. They all see that. I see that.”

“Do you?”

He presses a kiss to her head again and lets go of her hand to wrap an arm around her shoulders, squeezing reassuringly. “Always.”

Heat rises to her cheeks. She licks her cold lips, his words reminding her of how she told him she has feelings for him.

Logan grasps the door handle and opens the door for her. He gestures for her to get inside as a great gust of wind blows at their backs, pushing snow inside the house.

“Thank you,” she says as she steps into the warmth. She dusts the snow off her coat and stomps her boots on the rug. Her coat rustles as she unzips it and takes it off.

The house is quiet. Too quiet. She notices it as Logan shuts the door behind them. Val is usually here. Wayne usually finds them too. In fact, they haven’t seen Wayne since the trail.

“Where is -” she cuts off her words as Draven rounds the corner with a grin on his face.

“Draven?” Logan calls.

“Not that I’m not glad to see you,” Eme says to her friend. “But what are you doing here?”

“You look like you’re up to no good,” Logan agrees while he hangs his coat on the hook then grabs Eme’s to hang next to his.

“That’s because I am. We are.”

As he finishes his sentence, both Val and Wayne round the corner. Both are grinning just as wide as Draven.

“What’s going on, guys?” Eme asks after a moment of silence.

“There’s a bubble bath waiting for you two upstairs,” Val says.

“A what?” Eme grins. She can’t help it. Their expressions are contagious. But for the two of them? Butterflies rattle in her stomach.

“What for?” Logan asks.

“It was Val’s idea,” Wayne tattles.

“What idea?” Eme asks when Val slaps his shoulder.

“The idea was all of ours,” Val answers.

“What are you talking about?” Logan prompts again.

“A date. An in-house date,” Draven divulges, clapping his hands together once. “It’s time a little mating happened.”
