Matthew shook his head. “I’m not concerned about your mental state, but if you’d like, I can refer you over to Lisa Merrit, our island psychologist. Her office is just behind our complex. She can help you find some strategies to cope with your lifestyle. She comes over from the mainland every Tuesday and Thursday.”

Callie shook her head. “I think I’m okay for now.”

Matthew nodded. “I’d like for you to keep up with the drawing. Some people journal to relieve their troubles. If sketching works for you, I’m going to encourage you to keep it up.”

She nodded. “All right.”

Matthew grabbed a prescription pad off his small table. “I have something else that might be just the thing. I want you to give it a try for at least six weeks—longer if possible.” He ripped off the sheet and handed it to her.

She read Have Fun and grinned.

“Do you think you can do that for me?”

She chuckled. “I’ll give it my best shot.”

“Good.”

She showed the paper to Nate.

Nate grinned and winked at her. “We can handle that.”

“You need more time to rest,” Matthew continued. “Make good on extending your vacation. Eat well. Continue to exercise. You’re in excellent shape. And no more worrying about work. In fact, don’t work at all.”

She frowned. “But I’m helping Molly at the bakery.”

“Are you enjoying yourself?”

She nodded. “Very much.”

“Then let’s call it a hobby with a paycheck.”

Callie laughed, liking Nate’s doctor very much—her doctor now, too, for the time being.

Matthew grinned. “Let Nate take care of you for a while. Better yet, take care of each other. Do you have any more questions or concerns before I ask Nate to step out while I give you your physical exam?”

“I’d like to discuss my options for birth control.” She looked at Nate. “Perhaps the pill.”

Matthew nodded. “We can certainly do that. Nate, go grab a lollipop and park it in the waiting room while we finish up in here.”

“Sure thing.” Nate stood and headed for the door. “I’ll see you in a few minutes.”

Callie nodded. “Okay.”

Nate pulled up in front of the house and put the Tahoe in Park as small drops of rain hit the windshield. “I believe this is your stop, ma’am.”

Callie smiled as she took off her seat belt and grabbed her purse and the white pharmacy bag by her feet. “Yes, it is.”

He shut off the engine and hit the button on the garage door opener, giving Callie access to the truck. “Do you need any help getting the centerpiece stuff into the pickup?”

She shook her head. “Thanks, but there’s not that much. I already have everything in a box.” She leaned across the center console and gave him a kiss. “Thank you for coming with me this morning.”

He grabbed her chin, keeping her close, pressing his lips to hers again, always eager for another taste. “You’re welcome.”

She smiled. “Have a good day, Sheriff.”

“I will, but I have a couple of minutes before I need to go.” He kissed her a second time and looked at his watch before he opened his door. “Plenty of time to grab my gun and a snack.”
