“Nope, baby. That’s close enough. You wanna go get ready and we’ll leave as soon as we’re done here?”
She nodded, offering me a wave as she left the room, and when I looked away from the empty doorway, two fuckers were glaring at me.
“What? She waved. Jesus.”
They leaned on the counter, one of them shoving a coffee at me, and then we were silent for a moment. Was I supposed to start this? I had no idea what they wanted. Finally one of them grinned.
“Aw our boy’s all grown up, bruv.”
“Yeah, finally popped his cherry. Lost his flower. Became a real man.”
How the fuck…
“Alright, fine. You guys seem to know all kinds of shit you shouldn’t. It’s disturbing, so let’s get to the point. Why am I here?”
They exchanged a smug grin.
“Well, since you’re officially no longer working for your former employers at Richmond Accounting, I guess you’re ours full time now.”
“How the hell do you know that? It literally just happened! What’s wrong with you people? Some shit is just private!”
The twin who spoke last just snorted, and turned to look at his brother.
“It’s like they think we don’t keep tabs on our people, Sammy.”
His brother offered him a wide eyed look in response.
“Almost like we don’t keep our business tight, and know all the things we need to for success. He’s dissing us, bruv.”
“You called me here for the double act? My woman’s all alone while I’m here, and her fucking sis…” I trailed off, because did they know that part?
Sammy aka Samuel (if I want to live) grinned. “Yeah, she’s a pain in the ass, that sister. Want her to disappear?”
I froze, nearly dropping the coffee I’d just picked up.
“D-disappear? What the…”
He shrugged. “I’m just saying. We can make problems disappear for our people. We’re good bosses. Question is, can your bird handle losing her twin? I gotta tell ya, the twin bond is pretty intense.”
His brother nodded and I set the coffee down, ashamed to see my fingers trembling as I shoved them out of sight.
“Uh… don’t do anything, please. We’re handling it. I just… she’s vulnerable in a strange place, and I don’t want to leave her long. Can we please get to the point?”
Samuel shrugged. “Fair enough, bruv. We’re very impressed with your performance so far. Danno kinda likes you, when you’re quiet, so we have more work for you if you’re up for it. Nothing violent. More surveillance for now, but if shit gets real, we’d need you in the thick of it.”
Huh. The surveillance was boring as fuck, but like he said, it was nothing violent.
“I need to make sure Claudia has company while I’m off for long periods, or that she’s where my people can be at hand if she needs them.”
Samuel shrugged, both arms lifting in the exaggerated move.
“That’s cool with us, bruv. Tomorrow and the next day we need you, so do what you have to do. Your clubhouse is nearly ready, right? She’ll be moving there with you then?” These fuckers were so intrusive, and how did they know things like this?
“I’m not telling you things about the club. I know you wanted that, but I’m not doing it. I’m loyal to them. They’re my family, and you seem to know way more than you should anyway. What use am I?”
Seb grinned and reached over to pat my cheek in a way he probably saw as affectionate, but it felt anything but.
“So cute when he’s standing his ground, right, bruv? That was a test and you passed. We don’t want people working for us who’d snitch on their own families. You keep our secrets, and theirs, and we’re good. You tell stories about us, and there’s a whole bunch of shit that’ll happen that you really won’t like. We’d rather stay friendly though, feel me?”
