He shows me the phone.

Grant: I hope you let her grovel a little.

“He’s not wrong,” I say, and Wells rubs my back as we read more of the texts.

Bellamy: Who are you kidding? Wells was practically on his knees begging her to take him back.

Fitz: Way to play hard to get, bro.

Keira sends a GIF of a guy on his knees.

I laugh. “They’re so much like my family.”

“They’re fools.” Wells types, Okay, enough, and sends it.

Bellamy: Don’t get your briefs in a bunch. We’re having a bonfire at Grant’s tomorrow at 8. You better bring her.

“A bonfire sounds fun,” I say. “I’d like to get to know everyone better.”

Wells slides his arm around my waist, pulling me against him. “What makes you think I’m going to let you out of my bedroom this weekend?”

“As much as I love the idea of never leaving this room, it might be nice to have clean clothes, and I need to get a dress to wear to Leni’s wedding at some point. I still can’t believe I left everything behind.”

“I’m worth it.” He kisses me. “But don’t worry. I planned on showing you the island tomorrow. We’ll pick up whatever you need.”

More messages chime as they roll in.

Bellamy: Tell me you’re coming.

Keira: Ew! Don’t!

Laughing emojis pop up from Grant and Fitz.

Bellamy: To the bonfire!

“They are just like my brothers,” I say. “We should definitely go to the bonfire. It sounds like it’ll be fun.”

“Fine. I’ll share you for a little while,” he concedes, and thumbs out, I’m taking Vic out on the boat tomorrow to show her the island. We’ll stop by after we’re back. Now stop texting.

Excitement bubbles up inside me. “We’re going out on your boat tomorrow?”

“I was thinking we’d take it around the island and maybe spend the night on it if you want.”

“If I want?” I wind my arms around his neck. “You promised me an ocean tryst, Silver.”

“I will always keep my promises to you.” We kiss, and my stomach growls again. “Come on, sweets. Let’s eat before the alien in your stomach gets angry.”

Moonlight spills through the windows as we make our way from the living room to the kitchen, which is spacious, with a large center island and expansive windows. Wells touches my hand and says, “How do you feel about crepes?”

“Like I could eat a hundred of them. Wait. You know how to make crepes?”

“You’re not the only one with secret skills.” He kisses my cheek as he walks past me and gets a mixing bowl from a cabinet and a whisk from a drawer. “I take it you don’t cook much?”

“When we were overseas, I loved cooking with everyone for the community feasts. But I’ve never been big on cooking for myself, and I’m not one of those people who inherently knows how to cook. But I am big on eating.”

“Yes, you are,” he says wickedly. “And I’m very appreciative.”

I laugh and glance out the window. Moonlight sprays a path over the inky water, like a secret revealed in the darkness. “It’s really beautiful here.”
