“You have no shame,” Sutton teased.
“For loving my fiancée? Why would I?” Archer smirked.
“Can’t you keep it in your pants for one afternoon?” Jules complained. “How would you like it if I showed up late all the time because I was having sex with Grant?”
“I’d love it,” Grant said, pulling her into a kiss.
Archer glowered at him.
Their father held his hands up. “This is too much information for some of us.”
“Speak for yourself, sonny boy,” their grandmother said. “I’m all for a healthy sex life.”
“As if we haven’t all caught you and Mom making out in the pantry, Dad?” Leni said.
“Or the laundry room,” Jock added. “That scarred me for life.”
“Don’t forget the living room. Remember that, Leni?” Sutton said, reminding her about the time they’d walked in on their parents feeling each other up on the couch.
“I only wish I could forget it,” Leni said, and she and Sutton laughed.
“Finding them in the supply room at work was a little scarring, too,” Daphne chimed in. “Sorry, Steve and Shelley.”
“They still frequent that room?” her grandmother asked. “Grandpa and I caught them there many times. Then they got creative, going out to the vines and the work shed—”
“Jesus, Dad. Not my vines,” Archer complained.
Their father chuckled.
“Don’t forget the bathroom,” Levi added.
“That was us, not them,” Tara said, and everyone laughed.
“Oh, right. Shit. Sorry, babe,” Levi said.
“I guess you all come by it honestly,” their father said, and lifted their mother’s hand, kissing the back of it.
“Okay, enough making me blush,” her mother said. “Sutton, sweetheart, I want to hear all about your trip. Did you have a good time?”
A little too good. “It wasn’t like I was at a spa, Mom. It was terrifying out there.”
“Because of nature or Flynn?” Leni asked.
“Do I need to put that guy in his place?” Archer asked gruffly.
“No. He was actually pretty great,” Sutton said.
Archer’s eyes narrowed. “How great?”
Sutton gave him a deadpan look. “We were in the middle of the rainforest, where nearly everything could kill us. He watched out for me, and he taught me a lot.”
“Does that mean he didn’t act like an ass?” Leni asked skeptically.
“If he knows what’s good for him, he didn’t,” her grandmother said. “In the office our girl has to be professional, but there are no holds barred in the jungle.”
In more ways than one.
“He had his moments,” Sutton said. “We both did, as anyone would in those circumstances. If anything, you should thank him for keeping me safe. He saved my life. I was inches from a deadly pit viper, and he put himself between me and the snake and cut its head off.” The fear she’d felt in the moment rushed in, and her words tumbled nervously out. “Did you know that snakes can still bite and kill you after their heads are cut off? The damn thing—the severed head—went after him, and its fangs got stuck in his boot. I thought…” She shook her head, unwilling to go there.
