“What’s the matter, Braden? Can’t hack the accommodations? Maybe I should get you a ticket home.”

He scoffed.

She eyed the bathroom. She could move the shelves next to the shower so she didn’t have to put her clothes on the floor, and get undressed behind the shower curtain. That would be easy enough. Having grown up with a gaggle of siblings, she wasn’t shy by any means, but Flynn was the last person she wanted to hear her going to the bathroom.

She turned to him. “I don’t suppose you’d be willing to take a walk while I get cleaned up, would you?”

“In this weather?” He looked amused as he sat on the love seat and took off his boots.

“Fine.” She pulled out her phone and strutted to the toilet, cranking up “Mean” by Taylor Swift as loud as her phone allowed to mask the sound of her going to the bathroom. After she was done, she washed her hands and went to move the shelves, but they were heavier than they looked, and she struggled to tug them across the floor.

Flynn walked over and stood at the entrance to the bathroom. His feet were bare, and huge, which made her traitorous mind think of that old wives’ tale about the size of a man’s feet relating to the size of his package. Her gaze traveled up his tree-trunk legs.

“Need help redecorating?”

Startled by his deep voice, she realized she was staring at the formidable bulge behind his zipper and tore her gaze away. What the hell was wrong with her?

“Nope.” She wasn’t about to give him the satisfaction of feeling superior in any way.

He watched her struggle for a minute before shaking his head and walking away. She finished moving the shelves and set clean cotton shorts and a comfortable shirt on them, then hung a towel over the shower rod. She stepped behind the curtain to undress. She turned on the water and scooted away from the icy spray. It took forever for it to become tepid, but she closed her eyes, trying to relax as it rained down over her.

How was it possible to be so tense while she was too tired to see straight?

She didn’t have to search far for the answer. He was probably sprawled out on the bed right now, just to annoy her. She took extra time washing her hair, appreciating the luxury of running water and a clean shower, which she knew she’d long for once they were in the rainforest. She rinsed out the shampoo and opened her eyes, coming face-to-face with an enormous spider. She screamed and bolted out of the shower, smacking into Flynn’s granite chest, causing her to scream even louder.

His arms circled her. “What’s wrong?”

“Spider! It’s a spider! It’s huge. It’s—”

“Sutton, stop screaming and pull yourself together.”

His authoritative tone broke through her fatigued hysteria, and she became painfully aware of his hot hands on her bare back, her naked body pressed against his exquisitely hard frame, and just how good he felt.

“Sutton,” he growled, his arms locking tighter around her.

She looked up, and his eyes drilled into her, primal and hungry. Flames engulfed her from the inside out.

His jaw clenched, and he uttered a curse. “You okay?”

Shitshitshit. Was she so exhausted, she was seeing things? “No. I’m naked in my boss’s arms. How do you think I am?”

“It’s probably not the best way to go after a raise.”

“Shut up!”

His lips twitched with amusement.

“You think this is funny?”

“I’m so damn tired, I don’t know what to think. Other than I have no idea how you’re going to handle the rainforest if you can’t handle a spider.”

“I expect spiders to be in the rainforest, not in the shower! I need a towel.”

He loosened his grip, stepping toward the towel.

She clung to him. “Where do you think you’re going? You are not seeing me naked.”

“Are we pretending I can’t see your ass from up here?”
