Coming on my boss.

Oh God…

She squeezed her eyes shut, thinking about how incredible it had been to be close to Flynn. He made her feel more than anyone ever had, and that was before they’d gone beyond kissing. She’d never been a moaner, but she couldn’t have held those sounds back last night if her life had depended on it. Flynn’s deep voice rumbled through her mind again—You’re safe with me. Get some sleep—and she was overcome with a different type of warmth. She had felt safe in his arms, and she’d slept better than she had in months, despite being in the middle of the rainforest with who knew what lurking outside the tent.

But now she was alone in that tent, which said a lot, didn’t it?

She heard Flynn walking around. He was probably pacing off his regret. But what if he wasn’t? What if he felt the same precarious connection she did and had escaped the tent to deal with his emotions?

The thought made her heart race even faster. What if he wanted to do it again?

What if she did?

Do I?

She closed her eyes against the yes echoing in her head and began mentally working through the pros and cons of hooking up with Flynn.

I broke my no O streak. Pro.

I broke it with my boss! Definite con.

He admitted to being attracted to me since the day we met. She didn’t know if that was a pro or a con.

He could have been pretending just to get me to fool around. That was a definite con.

Ugh. That was getting her nowhere.

She had to go out there and face the music, but what did she want?

More.

More of that connection, more talking and getting to know each other. More of those unbelievable kisses and all the delicious touching that had followed. But he was her boss, and that wasn’t even a gray area. That was a clear off-limits zone, which sent reality crashing down on her. What she wanted didn’t matter, because if anyone found out, they could both lose their jobs.

With that sucky reality in her head, she used her body wipes to clean herself up, put on bug spray and clean clothes, and shoved her feet into her boots before heading out of the tent. The raincoats they’d set up were hanging from a tree branch, and there were smoldering embers in the fire pit. She spotted Flynn crouched beside the log where they’d purified the water last night, and her pulse quickened. His hair hung over his forehead, a royal-blue long-sleeve shirt straining against his biceps. He wore tan cargo pants tucked into boots, and he was pushing water through a leaf funnel into a canteen.

He looked up, and a slow grin crept across his handsome face, sending those butterflies into flight. “Hey, Steele. How’d you sleep? You look rested.”

“Um…good. Yeah. I’m good.” He was acting like nothing happened, which made her feel awkward. They couldn’t just ignore what they’d done. That would make it even more awkward, so she gathered her courage and said, “So…that happened.”

He closed the canteen and pushed to his feet, brows knitted. “Can you be more specific? A lot happened yesterday.”

“Flynn.” She shot him an imploring look.

“What?” He closed the distance between them. “Are you talking about eating worms or using the makeshift ladies’ room?”

“Oh my God. Can you…?” She crossed her arms. “I am not going to spell it out.”

“If it wasn’t those things, then I guess by that you meant when we kissed?”

She rolled her eyes.

“No?” He leaned in so close, their chests brushed, and he lowered his voice. “Do you mean when I touched you?” He ran his hand down her arm, and even through her shirt, it brought rise to goose bumps. “Or when I had my mouth between your legs and you came so hard and loud, you probably scared off all the dangerous animals?”

Great. Now she was the good kind of damp. Bastard. He looked amused. Was this a game to him? She lifted her chin, holding his gaze. “I don’t think any of that is what Karen meant to happen when she sent us here.”

He drew back, standing taller, eyes serious. “I’m sure you’re right.”

“It can’t happen again. You’re my boss, and we could both get in trouble.”
