“Well, it would be if you were facing the other way, boy.”
His heart leapt at his grandfather’s voice, and he spun around, shocked to see his entire family standing there.
“Surprise!” they cheered, and converged on them with warm hugs and claps on the back.
Flynn’s heart was overflowing.
“You look a little stunned, son,” his father said.
“I can’t believe you’re all here.” He glanced at Sutton, falling even more in love with her.
“We missed you,” his mother said, hugging him again.
“Not me. I missed Sutton.” Noah slung an arm around her. “How’s it going, babe? Did you miss me?”
“Every day. Kind of like I miss mosquitoes in the winter,” she teased.
Everyone chuckled.
“Still can’t get your own woman, huh, little brother?” Flynn reached for Sutton’s hand. “Clay, how’d you get time off? I thought you were playing right through Christmas.”
“I am. Today and tomorrow are the only days off I’ve got through the holidays. When Sutton suggested we join you guys, I thought, let’s do it.”
“And, Vic, I thought you had to be on the West Coast this week.”
“Since everyone else could get here, I rescheduled,” she said. “I would love to see the island. Do you have time to show us around before the dance?”
“I’d like to see the wildlife refuge,” his father added.
“We’d love to meet Sutton’s family, too,” his mother said.
“I heard there’s a whaling museum,” his grandfather said. “We’d like to check that out.”
“Just point me in the direction of wherever the single women hang out,” Noah said.
“How about we get some food first?” Seth slapped his stomach. “I’m starved.”
“You’re always hungry,” Victory said, sparking teasing banter from the others.
“And you’re not?” Clay chimed in. “I saw you eat two candy bars on the ferry.”
“Don’t judge me,” Victory said.
“He’s just jealous because he has to watch his figure,” Noah teased.
As his family joked around, Flynn drew Sutton into his arms and gazed into her beautiful eyes. “You did this, Steele. You brought the crazies to your quiet island.”
“I knew you were missing them, so I thought I’d try my hand at carrying on your family tradition.”
“God, I love you. This is the best gift ever.” He lowered his lips to hers in a tender kiss.
“Are you going to show us around the island or make out with Sutton all day?” Clay teased.
Flynn kept Sutton close and glanced at Clay. “Are you really giving me the option? Because…” He cocked a brow, and everyone laughed.
Chapter Forty-Three
SUTTON HAD A great day with Flynn and his family, introducing them to her family and friends as they showed them around the island. They’d loved the little towns, cute shops, and everyone they’d met. Sutton had invited Flynn’s grandmother, mother, and Victory to get ready for the dance with her and the girls at her parents’ house. They’d had a wonderful time, sipping wine and holding babies. The men had created a lot of fanfare as the women had paraded down the stairs. Sutton loved that they’d gotten to share in that family tradition with her.
