Leni gasped.

“Who are the originals?” Flynn asked.

“You’re looking at one of them,” Sutton said. “My dad and his college buddies started the whole pranking thing.”

“Roddy and Alexander?”

Her father smirked.

“Steven,” her mother said sternly. “This is not a good idea. I do not want tomorrow ruined.”

“I give you my word, darlin’,” her father said.

Sutton’s phone chimed in her room. She snagged it from the dresser and came back out to the hall. “It’s a group text from Archer. Disco lights and baby shark? Really assholes? I’m going to kill you!” She looked at Flynn. “That’s what the guys were doing on his boat! I knew they were up to something!”

Raz chuckled. “They told me they had a friend make some kind of device that they put under the mattress, so when Archer and Indi got into bed, it set off disco lights and music.”

Everyone laughed.

“On that note,” her father said. “I think I’ll go get rid of this doll.”

Sutton exhaled loudly. “Thanks, Dad.”

After Steve went downstairs and everyone else went to their rooms, Flynn and Sutton went into hers. He closed the door, and as he drew her into his arms, she buried her face in his chest. “They’re such jerks.”

“They’re brothers, babe. You know they love you. How about I help you forget about the creepy doll?”

She looked up at him with hopeless eyes. “Even you and your magic anaconda can’t make me forget that thing.”

“But it’ll be fun trying.”

Chapter Thirty-Four

SUTTON SAT IN her office Monday reading the email from GNN confirming a time for her interview. She was on the fence about accepting, and she wanted to talk to Flynn about it. But she’d have to wait until tonight when they were alone. She closed her personal email program and dove into research.

Hours later, Flynn stalked into her office, those devastating blue eyes twinkling with secret emotions, sending her heart aflutter. With the exception of the creepy doll fiasco, the weekend had been like a dream come true. Having Flynn all to herself and not having to hide their affection or emotions were the best feelings and the worst kind of taunt. Now that she’d had a taste of that freedom, she wanted more of it. She didn’t mind being back at work, but that part of their reality sucked.

He lifted his chin, speaking earnestly. “Steele.”

“Yes, Braden?” She feigned annoyance. “Are you hoping to ride me again today? I know you take great pleasure from it.”

His eyes narrowed, but his lips quirked. “I do enjoy giving you a hard time. But that’s not why I’m here. I’m hitting the Beehive for lunch, and I thought you might want to come along to discuss our upcoming projects.”

A thrill darted through her, but so did worries. The Beehive was frequented by a lot of LWW staff. “I’m not sure that’s a good idea.”

“A working lunch.” He placed both palms on her desk and leaned closer, whispering, “I want to spend time with you. Now, tell me you will go to lunch with me if you have to, and move that sexy ass of yours.”

She smiled and immediately fell back into the role of friendlyish colleagues. “If I must.” She stood and smoothed her pencil skirt over her hips, reaching for her purse.

“My treat.”

Her brows knitted in question.

“It’s a write-off,” he reassured her.

“Once again, you’ve thought of everything.” She slipped her phone into her pocket and locked her purse in her desk.

“That’s why I’m the boss,” he said as they left her office.
