She leaned against him as they scrolled through the pictures, his heart swelling at the light in her eyes in every single one of them.
“We’re not a bad-looking couple,” she said softly.
“Are you looking at the same pictures I am? How can you look at your beautiful face and say we’re not bad looking? You’re the prettiest woman everywhere you go, and you shine in pictures as brightly as you do in person.” She blushed, and he hugged her against his side, kissing her temple. He sent the picture in a group text to his family.
“You’re not going to send a message with it?”
“I think the picture speaks for itself.”
“Will you send them to me?”
“I think I can manage that.” As he texted them to her, his phone vibrated with a string of texts. “Here we go.” He and Sutton read them together.
Grandpa: Try not to muck it up before I get to meet her.
Noah: Keep your hands off my woman.
Clay: You know she’s pretending she’s with me. He sent a devil emoji.
Sutton laughed softly.
Seth: I’m glad to see you’re still going strong. I’m happy for you both.
Mom: We can’t wait to meet her.
Victory sent a smiling emoji surrounded by hearts, and Don’t wear her out. We have a shopping date coming up.
He pocketed his phone.
“Aren’t you going to reply?” she asked.
“No. I just wanted them to know we were happy.”
“I’m pretty sure Victory knows that already.”
“Are you sharing secrets with my sister, Steele?”
“Maybe,” she said playfully.
“Good. I’m glad you two are becoming friends. Maybe you can convince her to get out and enjoy life a little more. Maybe she’ll even meet a new guy.”
“From what I’ve seen, the right things happen with the right people without any interference from others.” She drank some champagne and handed him the bottle.
“You might be right.” He took a drink. “Look at us.”
“That’s what I’m talking about. I’m really glad we didn’t like each other for so long.”
“Speak for yourself. I was totally digging you from day one. I told you that.”
“But you didn’t know me. That was a physical attraction.”
“It was primarily physical, but it didn’t take long before you hooked me in with your fierce determination and smart-mouth challenges. But why are you glad we didn’t get along?”
“Because if we’d been friendlier to each other, Karen wouldn’t have sent us to the rainforest alone, and we could’ve missed out on all this.”
“You mean great sex with your dick of a boss?”
“Well, my boss is very talented with that particular body part.”
