"Do not move. I mean it."
He lets me go and moves over towards the couches. For the first time since I've heard of vampires, I am actually grateful for their fast speed. Within moments, he grabs a thick blanket then is back at my side, wrapping me deep inside. After seeing to my comfort, he lifts me up, burrito that I am, and carries me over to the couch and holds me close to him. The warmth stops the tremors, and I finally feel warm and comforted. It's like I'm in this warm cocoon. I never want to leave.
Adrian nuzzles my hair with his nose, and I sigh, snuggling in even closer to him. Consciousness drifts in and out, to where I can't even seem to remember what day it is. Was it only a few nights ago that I met my vampire? Wait. Mine? When did he become mine? A soft humming breaks through, and I realize it's coming from him. Looking up, I see his eyes closed and his features relaxed. He really is quite handsome. More so when he's stern. Another dart of arousal spears me, and he opens his eyes, pinning me with a glare.
"That one was not enough for you? You are ready for more? I am not a machine woman, I cannot sustain your lust for me. At least not without some sustenance of my own."
He grins as he swoops down and kisses me thoroughly. The few brain cells I gathered while resting in his arms fled at the touch of his lips. Without thinking, I pull my hair back and angle my neck towards him. "Fine then, sustain yourself."
He freezes in my arms. "What did you say?"
Fuck. Tossing my hair back in front of me, I try to scoot back, but he holds me even firmer in his grasp.
His fingers slowly encircle my throat, and my pulse beats wildly out of control. But I don’t care at this point. I’m just done with everything. The lies, the self-loathing. If he wanted to kill me right now, I wouldn’t say no. The look in his eyes is murderous and intense. Despite myself, I shiver as fresh arousal trickles down my thighs. If this is the way I die, I won’t complain a bit.
“I will not repeat myself.”
He gives me a slight shake, just enough to bring me back to the land of the living.

What the fuck? What the actual fuck? Has she seen me feeding? How does she know what I am? What I crave? I search through my mind, trying to find any memory, any inkling that I might have revealed myself. The only memories are of her supple lips around my cock, her warm, tangy blood dripping off of my tongue...but she had been asleep or incoherent during that time. Or so I thought.
It’s at least confirmed now. The garlic, the crosses. She knows what I am. But for how long? My mind starts wandering in a direction that has no good ending. I don’t want to believe the insidious lies my brain is whispering into my head.
Looking back down at my little mortal, fear stabs me for the first time in centuries. What have I done? Lucius would have my head if I compromised the club. I guess it was about time to move on anyway. But what about Marion? Maria? What would happen to them when I left?
Her arousal hits me hard, reminding me that I’ve not actually fed yet tonight. My cock aches and strains against the fabric, and her tight bottom rubbing against me is not helping in the least. The fact that her body is screaming for sex even as I hold her life in the balance gives me pause. What if I turn her? She can’t reveal our secrets if she were one of us. Right?
Evangeline’s body writhes against me as my fingers continue to tighten around her slender throat. A few more twists of her hips, and I might embarrass myself. Besides, she is still riding the subspace high and doesn’t know exactly what danger she’s courting. Reluctantly, my fingers ease up from around her, and her eyes flutter open to reveal that startling blue that never ceases to arrest my breath.
“I’m sorry. I haven’t been completely honest with you.”
My gut tightens. I knew it. Something has been off since I let this woman in my life. I should have known better than to get involved. Taking in a deep breath that I definitely did not need, I sit there, still as a statue, waiting for the worst.
“I was raised learning about mythical creatures and paranormal entities. They’ve actually become a source of fascination for me.” Her fingers slide down my chest as her mind churns. “One might say that I’m addicted to finding the truth about all creatures. The knowledge thrills me.” Her eyes cut to the side for the briefest of moments. “I don’t use this information for harm...just as a personal bucket list of sorts. I had no clue you were one of these mythical creatures.” She concludes quickly. “I thought you were just some mysterious hot guy that knew how to blow any girl’s mind. Then I saw your fridge.”
I freeze. Had I really been so stupid as to not close the panel all the way? Gods know what my face is doing, but the temerity with which she reaches out gives me pause. I focus on relaxing the muscles. No need to scare off my inquisitive bird; however, one whiff of the air confirms that she is far from frightened.
“I was getting the soup like you told me. It was heavier than I was expecting, and it knocked against the side panel. I freaked out, thinking I broke your fridge. Instead, I saw the partially opened panel with the blood and put two and two together.”
She moves again until she is sitting back up in my lap, her ass grinding against my engorged shaft with every shift sending more blood to the area. My head swims as her scent gets even closer. At this rate, I might just toss her down on the floor and ravage her neck until I drink my fill. Shaking my head, I scoop her up and sit her back down on the couch.
“Do not move.” I pin her with my deadliest glare before leaving her to raid my refrigerator.
Damnit. I have to consider moving now. I was really starting to like this area and the people. Sure, the vampire community is full of assholes and degenerates, but that is what we are. For who and what they are, they are actually some of the best people I have met, my current nest notwithstanding. Think, think!
Before I can open my fridge, I feel and smell her behind me. Her scent sings to me, trying to lure me to this woman I do not even really know. It begs me to feast on what’s being freely offered. It’s not like I refused her blood when she had no clue what was even happening.
“I thought I told you not to move.”
Without an answer, her slender arms wrap around my waist. Her body is warm and vibrant against me. Very nearly, I consider marking her, making her mine forever. But that is a discussion better had when both parties are sober.
“Please don’t hate me.”
Her voice quivers and tugs at the heart I long thought to be dead. Hate her? How could I ever hate her? She exasperates me to no end and always keeps me on my toes. But there is something about her. Something that calls to me and makes me whole. The feeling is warm and uncomfortable at the same time.
