“Oh, my dear, sweet, little massage therapist. Did you really think it would be that simple? No,

no, no…” Reaching over to my violet wand that already has a large bulb in place, I grin as I turn it on.

“I have plans.”

CHAPTER 16

L ila

AN OMINOUS ZAPPING SOUND FILLS THE AIR, AND I WATCH IN FASCINATION AS THE LIGHTBULB TURNS

on. It’s not illuminating anything, but the filament inside glows a curious magenta in the shape of a

heart. I honestly can’t help the smile that blossoms on my face as I stare at it.

“Now zen, Fraulein,” he says in an overacted German accent. “It seems you haff information zat I

vwequire. Information zat I vill do anysing to get.”

Chuckling, I roll my eyes as he tries to appear intimidating, but the accent is just corny enough that

I can’t help it. Even though he frowns at my laughter, he doesn’t chide me or get upset. Instead, he runs

the tips of his fingers along the glass, changing the hum into full-on crackling zaps.

The sound trips along my brain, threatening to short-circuit my thoughts. I’m not laughing anymore.

Instead, I stare at the bulb, watching as the heart inside glows brighter when it touches his skin. It’s

just barely, but I can see the arcs of electricity as it jumps from the glass to his fingers.

The sight and sound are so reminiscent of those plasma balls I had as a kid, but something tells me

the bite of his equipment will be far more than the static hum that I played with all those years ago. He

holds it at eye level, and I simply stare at the dormant bulb, waiting for it to zap me—but Master

Aiden holds it steady, not letting it get too close to my face.

When he pulls it away, I’m able to breathe for just a moment, but all too soon he brushes it along

my arm, letting it zap me. My body recoils as best it can while restrained. Not because it hurts, but

because it’s a new sensation I don’t quite know how to process.

“Now that I have your attention,” he murmurs in his normal voice. “I’ll tell you the rules of the

game. Since you’ve been so reticent to give me the information I want, I’ll reward you with some

electric play for every bit you give me. Again, no names. We both know who we’re talking about.”

I want to fire back a rebuttal, to tell him that it wasn’t me just being reluctant for no good reason.

Until I had the right to access form in front of me, I didn’t feel like it was ethical to say anything at all.

But the moment I open my mouth, he glides the glass along the swell of my breast, stealing my breath

and my thoughts as skittering pops of electricity light up my skin in brief stings.
