“You don’t really want me fucking some other omega, right?” he asks softly, leaning closer. “You want me all to yourself too, don’t you?”

I don’t answer but I know he sees the possessiveness in my eyes.

“It’s okay to be honest with yourself, Elio. Trust me, I know how hard it is to accept this reality. But it’s happening. It’s real. I don’t want other omegas, I only want you. You feel the same, don’t you? You don’t want me to touch anyone else, right?”

“Yes,” I admit, cheeks warm. “But I don’t want to feel this way.”

“It doesn’t matter what we want. This is what the bond has done to us. So let’s be kind to ourselves. Let’s take that clause out and be faithful to each other. Okay?”

I hesitate.

“Please?” He pushes softly. “The alternative will be unbearable. Let’s only be with each other. Let’s deepen this connection between us, without other people interfering.”

I sigh and as if hypnotized can’t help saying, “Okay.”

He smiles. “Good. Yes. We’ll just focus on us. Our bond. Making a baby together. We don’t need outside distractions. I only need you in my bed.”

I shiver. “Okay. But… but if I find out you cheated anyway, you’ll be sorry. I won’t let you make a fool of me without consequences.”

He laughs. “I believe you. However, that’s not going to happen.”

“I guess we’ll see,” I murmur.

I’m surprised when he gives me a quick peck on the cheek, pats my leg, and suddenly stands. “I’ll let you rest now,” he says.

“What?” I ask dazed.

“You’re bruised from the accident and probably sore from last night. You’ll need a few days to feel like yourself.”

I’d assumed he’d try to sleep with me, regardless of my physical condition, so I can’t hide my shock at how considerate he’s being. “You’re leaving?”

He squints at my baffled expression. “I just came to check on you. I told you that. You think I’m going to try and sleep with you after you were in a car wreck?”

“Maybe,” I admit.

“Elio, Elio, Elio, you have a lot to learn about me.” He moves toward the door. “I’m not nearly as awful as you think I am.”

“I suppose it remains to be seen.”

He chuckles and opens the door. “I’ll let you know when Kessler sends over the new contract tomorrow. Sleep well, bello.”

Once he’s gone, I lie down on the bed, staring at the ceiling. I’m relieved that he gave me what I wanted for Fabio, and secretly glad that the non-exclusivity clause is being removed. It would have been hell putting up with knowing glances from omegas he’d fucked.

However, I feel a pang of sadness that I won’t be able to explore things with Pete. When my time here is done, Pete will have moved on to someone else, I’m sure. And we’ll both have changed. I can’t spend three years in this world and not change. Adapting to Marcello’s world is the only way I’ll survive.

Will Marcello be faithful? I’m not sure. His motivation for taking that non-exclusivity clause out was purely selfish. He’s feeling possessive since claiming me and he wants to stop me from sleeping with other alphas. But will he actually adhere to the terms of the contract? I won’t hold my breath.

The bigger question is if he’ll be able to give me the emotional support I’ll need in this relationship. Once I’m pregnant, I’ll need that support more than ever. I want to believe him when he says he can give me that, but nothing about him makes me think he’ll bother. He’s too self-centered.

The future is murky. Intimidating. I have no idea what life will be like as Marcello’s omega. Perhaps once Fabio has his surgery, I’ll feel more settled. Right now, we still have to get through that huge hurdle. I look forward to seeing Fabio healthy and on the road to recovery. Only then will I be truthful with him about what I did to get him the surgery. He’ll be upset with me, but it will be too late.

As long as Fabio gets through the surgery safely, it will all have been worth it.

Chapter Nine

Marcello

A week passes and the bruises on Elio’s face and shoulder are fading from purple to a sickly green-yellow. The bite on his neck has scabbed over too, well on its way to healing.
