Meryn laughed. “He meant well.”
Moments later, her phone vibrated, and again, she answered it and placed it on the table.
“You’re here with everyone Auntie.”
“Meryn, is something going on there? Are you able to speak freely?”
“What do you mean?”
“Why did I get an interview request you sent to Portia?”
“We need positive reviews for the unit warriors so that people here don’t think they suck.”
“I understand that. Why did you not just ask me? I would deny you nothing.”
“I don’t wanna take advantage and stuff.”
They all heard a sharp inhale. “Meryn, you listen to me. You are Princess Meryn of Éire Danu, you deserve any and every advantage that position can give. Is tomorrow soon enough for your interview?”
Meryn turned to Rory. “Is that okay?”
Rory gulped at the sheer presence of the former queen coming through the phone. “Your Majesty…”
“I am referred to as Your Highness now, Meryn insisted.”
His eyes swung to Meryn, who just shrugged.
“Your Highness, my name is Rory Armstrong. I will be heading up public relations efforts here in Storm Keep. I can easily adapt to your schedule, after all, you are doing us an enormous favor.”
“Meryn, is he as handsome as he sounds?” the former queen asked.
“Yuppers, has three brothers too. Augustus is the lawyer, Rory is public relations, Connor is contracts, and Eoin is the face. All four of them look like models,” Meryn admitted.
“My, my.”
“Meryn, you can ask your aunt the questions. Tell that bear cub he’s not allowed to talk to my mate,” Brennus grumbled.
A soft, tinkling laughter was heard. “Meryn, ignore your uncle. Rory, dear, get my contact information from Meryn. Anytime tomorrow afternoon is fine.”
“Yes, Your Highness,” he answered.
“Bye, Auntie! Thanks!”
“Of course, sweetheart. Next time, just call me,” she chided, then hung up.
Aiden looked down at his mate. “You did all that on purpose.”
“Yeah.”
“Why?”
“I miss them and it’s fun.”
Ryuu set down a steaming cup of tea in front of Meryn. “Your nighttime chamomile.”
“Thanks, Ryuu.”
Meryn’s phone buzzed and she looked down and started laughing.
