“Thank you,” I cooed at Rowdy, who shrugged like his idea was no big deal.
He gently took Colson from my arms and handed him to Bebe. Once his hands were free, they cupped my face.
“No more tears, okay?” Rowdy murmured and kissed me.
His lips demanded my submission. This kiss wasn’t tender or teasing. Rowdy claimed every inch of me with the heat of a single kiss.
When he released me, I stared dumbfounded. Rowdy could seem like a simple guy. Handsome and smart, for sure, but just a man. Moments like this one, though, made me believe he was made of magic. As long as I focused on him, my fears couldn’t touch me.
ROWDY
Kat had been on the verge of tears all morning. Maria was barely calmer. The cats freaking out didn’t help, and the drive to Little Memphis only riled them up more.
My mom’s reaction to the mix-up surprised me most. Despite my assurances, Bebe had gotten herself worked up over the idea of Kat running away from me. She had already pictured a perfect life for me with Kat as my wife and the boys growing up down the street from my parents. Anything distracting from that dream set off her emotions.
With Bebe, Kat, and Maria already agitated, the baby mix-up gave them an outlet to lose their shit. Once Cavan and Colson were dressed, though, the women chilled out.
I took Kat’s hand and guided her into the open kitchen and family room.
“What do you think?”
Though her green eyes were tired and still wet, they still lit up as she took in the modern condo. “It’s beautiful.”
“Super masculine, don’t you think?” I asked and waved around. “But we can add feminine touches to even it out.”
“With two sons, we shouldn’t go too feminine.”
“Your place is colorful and warm. I think those colors would help warm up my place.”
Sizing up the space, Kat zeroed in on the cage in the corner near the windows. A covered litter box sat next to Goblin’s sleeping spot.
“Where’s your dog?” she asked. “Where are the cats?”
“I have no idea about the cats. They bolted as soon as Vanessa opened their carriers. Goblin is at Clint’s condo.”
“I feel guilty over keeping him from his home.”
“Look, I love Goblin,” I said, feeling Kat spiraling again. “He was my first kid. I babied the hell out of him. But he’s a tough little shit and can handle staying with his buddy Hanzee over at Clint’s place for now. After we introduce the cats to him, we can sit back and enjoy the three of them battling for dominance.”
Kat’s worried expression shattered under the weight of her smile. “Tough or not, Goblin has met his match with the girls. They tag-team their opponents, like two velociraptors hunting the kids in ‘Jurassic Park’.”
“That’s going to be some entertaining shit,” I said and wrapped my arm around her waist. “Do you know what will also eventually be entertaining?”
I guided Kat to the staircase leading to my loft bedroom. Smiling instantly, she slowly made her way upstairs. I didn’t rush her, knowing stairs weren’t easy with her still-healing surgery incision.
Seeming winded by the time she reached the top, Kat was quick to crawl onto my bed. Her gaze glowed as she remembered what our bodies felt like together.
“We’ve shared a bed for weeks,” I reminded the naughty vixen currently eye-fucking me. “We still have another month before we can get raunchy again.”
Kat bit her bottom lip and smirked, “I’m going to ride your dick until we’re both begging for mercy.”
Crawling onto the bed next to her, I murmured, “Your words are imprinted here,” I said and tapped my head. “In a month, I’ll have very specific expectations.”
Kat stroked my chest. “I have a list of fantasies we couldn’t act out in my back seat. But here, in your bed, we’ll have the room to explore.”
My hand slid up her black leggings, over her belly, and landed on her tit. Kat grew wary as soon as my fingers reached her stomach.
“Don’t you dare get insecure with me,” I warned her. “You’re the best-looking woman I’ve ever seen. Besides, the things you’re insecure about are from carrying my boys. Those stretch marks are battle wounds that I plan to kiss all over.”
