“And you happened to teleport here?”

“We’re going to go wait outside. Call us if you need us,” Joey says.

They all pass by me, leaving the two of us with the nurse.

“I, umm, we were in town.”

Georgia cocks an eyebrow at me. “You happened to be in town?”

The nurse’s eyes are flitting back and forth between the two of us. “Everything is tracking nicely, Georgia. You’re getting close, so it shouldn’t be too much longer. I’ll be back to check on you in a little bit.”

“Thank you.” She smiles at her.

I wait until she shuts the door behind me to walk closer to the bed.

“What are you doing here?” Georgia asks.

“Luke and I were coming home.”

“I thought LA was home?” she asks.

I shake my head, dropping into the empty seat next to her bed.

“It’s a long story, but we made a mistake. Luke realized LA wasn’t as great as he remembered, so we came home. This is where he wants to be. Where I want to be. With you.”

Her lip wobbles. “Really?”

“Yes. I never want to be away from you, Georgia.”

She reaches her hand out to me and I take it like a thirsty man in the desert.

“Are you here for good?”

I nod. “I’m sorry, Georgia. You have to know I didn’t want to leave you. I never wanted to leave you, but this is why I had to go. I didn’t want to leave him on his own because Kari was too busy for her own kid.”

“I’m—”

“I love you, Georgia.” I cut her off. “I’m here. I never want to leave you again. You, me, Luke, and Potato.”

“Are you still calling him Potato?” She laughs.

“Do you have a better name?”

“I’m still leaning to Eli or Jack.”

The pressure on my hand increases as a contraction hits. I help her through it, brushing the hair off her head before she falls back on the bed.

“I really hate my friends. None of them told me how bad this was supposed to be.”

“What about me?” I ask. “Am I in that group?”

She shakes her head. “Even if I was mad, I could never hate you, Grant.”

I kiss the back of her hand. “Do you forgive me for leaving?”

“If you can forgive me for not picking up when you called. I’m sorry. I was so upset and hormonal because of this little guy and didn’t think I could have a rational conversation.”

“There’s nothing to forgive,” I say. “I love you so damn much, Cowgirl, and I never want to be apart from you.”
