“I came to see you about a very urgent matter.” He made his way over, pulling me up from my chair and into his embrace.
“It feels urgent,” I whispered, feeling his cock harden against me.
He dipped his face to my neck, brushing the hair out of his way and feathering his lips against the sensitive skin. “I realize it’s only Monday, and I told myself I could surely wait until Wednesday before needing you in my bed again, but I was wrong. I need you tonight.”
I should work all night looking at the checks, but he was hard to refuse. I had to sleep at some point. Right? “Nine o’clock okay?”
He frowned. “Of course, but I hate you having to work late. Anything I can help with?”
“Um...” No way in hell.
“Are you going through the samples you were sent?”
“Uh, yes.” It wasn’t a complete lie as I had spent a few minutes reading over the answers.
“What can I do?”
If I didn’t give him something, he’d think it suspicious. After all, he was supposed to be assisting me. “I’d like to switch focus of the audit to HR. Ensure payroll information is being kept confidential and the benefit deductions are accurate.” It wasn’t a bad idea to audit this process, but the lie felt bitter on my tongue.
“I can set up a meeting with the manager of HR and payroll.”
“Terrific. It would be helpful if I could get a list of personnel and their duties as they relate to payroll and benefits and who has access to the HR system.”
“I’m on it.”
God, he was so eager to help. I felt terrible sending him on a wild goose chase. But his next words confirmed I was making the right decision.
“Sophia will be happy to hear you’re moving on to a new department.”
“I bet she will,” I managed to get out.
“Any plans with your girlfriends this weekend?”
“No. It turns out I have to travel home to New Hampshire.”
“Yeah, to see your brother?”
“No. Unfortunately, I promised to go to my father’s annual company party.” I’d booked my flight an hour ago.
He took my hand in his. “I could go with you.”
“You hate to fly.”
He shrugged. “I know, but it’s fine.”
“It’s not a straight shot. I have to fly into Boston and then get on a smaller plane to Manchester.” If I’d told Chance I was travelling home, he’d book me a private jet. But then I’d have to hear a lecture about how I didn’t owe my parents anything and shouldn’t take the time for a father who didn’t reciprocate. And I didn’t want to get into it. Whatever Chance thought, I knew I’d feel better if I went. I’d be there all of twenty-six hours.
Dominic leaned back, swallowing hard. “Two flights, huh?”
My hand reached up and touched his face. “Four if you include the return trip. I’ll return on Sunday.”
“Mm, I’d still like to go with you. So long as you don’t mind me taking Xanax and being terrible in bed on Friday night.”
My giggle bubbled up. “It’s a red-eye, so we wouldn’t arrive until Saturday morning.”
He swallowed again. “Would I have time for a short nap before the party?”
“Yes, but I couldn’t ask you to be miserable. My trips home aren’t exactly happy ones.”
