She wore a black pencil skirt, a crimson silk blouse, and killer black pumps. The urge to touch her had me clenching my hands into fists under my desk.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Chambers.”
I shook my head. “Nic, or Dominic at least.”
“Dominic, good afternoon.”
“It is now. What can I do for you?”
“Your father indicated you had copies of some of your office lease agreements and your large vendor contracts.”
“I’m sure I do.” Somewhere. “I’ll have a look and email them to you.”
“I got the impression you’d have hard copies.”
My gaze hit the large wall of filing cabinets. “Shall we have a look?”
We each took a different cabinet, sliding out the drawers and looking for the relevant dates. “Aha,” I finally said, after opening the third drawer. “I think this might be it.”
She walked to my side to take a look, coming deliciously close to me.
“I think you’re right.”
“Did you change your scent?” This perfume had a musky note of vanilla and orange.
Her cheeks turned pink. “Thought it was time for a change. Does it smell okay?”
I dipped my head, inhaling at the curve of her neck. I didn’t miss her sharp intake of breath. Knowing I was the first man to experience her new scent made me possessive as hell. I closed my eyes, fighting the urge to kiss her.
I didn’t win the battle. She shivered, and before I could stop myself, I was peppering her skin with kisses, starting behind her ear and moving down to her collarbone.
“This doesn’t count as a first kiss,” I warned her.
“What is it, then?”
Madness was the most accurate answer, considering we were in my office and both on the clock. “A true test of a fragrance includes a tasting, don’t you think?”
She swayed in her heels, giving me an excuse to put my hands on her hips.
“What’s the verdict?”
“You always smelled good, but this new scent is sexier and more confident. More you.” With a mega effort, I forced myself to step back. Her dazed expression nearly caused me to groan. I craved her as I never had another woman, but I wouldn’t rush this.
She blinked, once, twice, as if to clear a fog of lust. “I shouldn’t. I mean we shouldn’t. Especially in the office and—”
I nodded, appreciating how much her job meant to her. I also didn’t want to make her uncomfortable here in the office. “I apologize. I got carried away.”
“You weren’t the only one,” she murmured, taking a deep breath.
“Come over for a Friday friendship dinner?”
She grinned. “Friday friendship dinner sounds good.”
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Kelsey
It was Friday, and our friendship dinner was tonight. A decision to keep Dominic in the friend zone until my assignment was finished should’ve made me feel relieved. Instead I was on edge. Especially after the episode in his office two days ago when I’d felt his lips on my skin. I’d never had such a strong physical reaction to a man. It was both unnerving and exhilarating.
