She trailed her lips down my neck. “Anything ringing a bell?”

“Mm, it might be coming to me.”

Her hand snaked down, rubbing my erection.

“Someone is shooting for second place.”

“Second? Oh no, sir. I’m not a second-place kind of girl.”

“First place might be pre-tty tough.”

She sat up, unbuttoning her pj top to reveal a pink, demi cup, lacy bra. Then she was standing up and shimmying down her pj bottoms to reveal a matching pink lacy thong.

“On second thought, you win. You win everything.”

Forty minutes later, we sat in her bed, both of us naked, six pints of ice cream on a tray in front of us, spoons in our hands. It was a bliss I hadn’t even known was possible.

“Look at you with your top three favorite things all at once.”

I threw my head back with a chuckle. “I can officially die a happy man now.” I reached over to give her a taste of my butter pecan while she offered me a spoonful of cookies and cream.

“How are the boys, by the way?”

It took me a moment to figure out what she meant until she puckered up like a fish. “Ah, Huey, Dewey, and Louie appear to be liking the pond. You could come over tomorrow and feed them.”

“It’s okay. I know your Sundays are your own. Plus, I have a number of things to do.”

Right. This was a bed of my own making, yet I wasn’t happy about it. “Sounds like you need me to leave early in the morning.”

“I do not. Instead, I need you to sleep in, order us breakfast, and leave whenever you feel comfortable—that is, after a scorching kiss, a sexy butt grab, and of course, a promise to see me next Friday night.”

Damn, she made it easy to be with her. “Yes, ma’am.”

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Daisy

Waking up in Caleb’s arms was my favorite thing. The last four months had been incredible. We typically spent Friday nights at his place, often with him cooking outdoors for us. Then on Saturday mornings we’d do some activity, and even if I had plans for Saturday night, we ended up together in my bed.

Although I missed him during the week, he usually texted me once or twice to tell me he was thinking about me. Sometimes I had to remind myself this was only temporary and keep myself from developing deeper feelings. Who was I kidding? It was already too late. I was falling.

He might not believe he was a romantic, but romance was in all the little things he did. Like insisting on bringing me breakfast in bed on Sunday mornings or buying my favorite ice cream for dessert. Or the flowers he’d brought over last night because they reminded him of the purple dress I’d worn the day before. We’d entered a comfort zone where he could leave the uptight man I knew in the office and completely relax when he was with me on the weekends.

He pulled me close, kissing my neck. “Are you feeling sweet or savory for breakfast this morning?”

Caleb was strict about his diet and gym routine Monday through Friday and equally serious about his weekend cheat meals. Especially breakfast. And he knew all of the best spots for any type of food I could imagine.

“Mm, surprise me.”

He kissed down my chest to my stomach, making my breath catch. “I need something before I leave.”

Yes, please. But the sound of my front door buzzer killed the mood. “Did you already order breakfast by chance?”

He nuzzled my breasts. “Nope.”

“Who could it be?” It was early on a Sunday morning. Kelsey was working this weekend in San Diego, and Tory would’ve texted me before dropping by.

He kissed my neck one last time before getting up. “Maybe Roscoe is homing in on my weekend time. Most likely, it’s someone selling something. You want me to get it?”
