Her lips twitched, giving me immense satisfaction. Something told me she didn’t have enough humor in her life.
“Where are we going?”
I opened the GPS and pressed the address of the Cheetah Club to pull up the map and directions for her. LA traffic could be terrible no matter what the hour, so it was always best to consult GPS for the best way in.
We set out on the road before she spoke again. “I’m surprised you’re okay with me driving.”
“Why would it bother me?” I was happy enough to be in the passenger seat, except it gave me the leisure to notice the scent of honey from whatever soap or shampoo Tory used.
“You seem the type who always likes to be in control.”
“Absolutely, I do. But since I spend so much time in the car, I have to be able to multitask and handle business from the road. It’s more logical to let someone else drive.”
“Is Malik your driver?”
“Sometimes. He’s also my head of security, and my right-hand man.”
We were silent again until she glanced over. “Is your brother a lot like you?”
My answer was easy. “No. He’s a good guy. If you’re worried about your sister, rest assured, you don’t need to be.”
“So you’re not a good guy?”
I shot her a look made to quiet most people.
She laughed it off. “You’re not the only one good at pushing buttons.”
“Touché. New subject. Are you all set for the appointment tomorrow?”
“Yes. Hopefully, they have received all of Penelope’s medical records to make it a smooth transition. I don’t want to lose any time.”
I made a mental note to call the hospital first thing in the morning to ensure they had the records. “Let me know if it becomes a problem.”
“Okay.”
There was no doubt she would not tell me if there was a problem tomorrow. I swear I’d never met someone more stubborn.
I directed Tory to pull into the garage adjacent to my building and to park in one of my designated parking spots. “I own the building. The first four floors contain the club. My office is on the fifth floor, and my condo is at the top of the building.”
She appeared unimpressed. But then she caught me off guard.
“It would be a good idea to see your condo.”
I simply stared at her, calculating her words, and wondering why they weren’t adding up to the excitement my body hoped for.
“To get an idea of your taste.”
Blink. Blink.
She huffed out a breath. “For the remodel of your house in Malibu. I have no idea what you like. What you would prefer for the new look.”
My remodel. I shook my head to rid myself of my errant thoughts. “I have a decorator who is familiar with my taste.”
“Oh, right, of course. Why didn’t you just tell me you had a decorator when I asked about the condo?”
“You don’t want to know,” I mumbled, getting out of the SUV.
She walked alongside me on the way to the elevator before stopping suddenly. “Wait. Did you think I wanted to go up to your condo to—” She rolled her eyes, the gesture a direct shot to my ego. “I don’t think so.”
