“Yuck.”
“Ha-ha,” Daddy chuckled. “Give me a minute and I’ll clean us and the bed up.” Ready to doze off, I whimpered when he got up. All it’d take was a comfy spot and nursing and I’d be down for the night. “Daddy didn’t hurt you, did he?” he asked, sliding in bed beside me and wrapping his arms around me.
“No, Daddy. It was perfect. I loved the whole growly, sexy-talk side of you.”
He chuckled. “Not sure what came over me, but I’m glad it worked.”
“Yes, and please may I have another?”
“I think that can be arranged, just not tonight. That sexy ass of yours wore Daddy out.” He could keep talking, but I was done. When I latched on, he sighed. “I’d call that a perfect date night. I love you, Angel.”
“I love you, Daddy.”
“Morning, Angel, time to get up.” Groaning, I rolled in the other direction. “Don’t you growl at your Daddy. Let’s shower and grab breakfast before we have to load up.”
“I could eat.”
“Thought that might get your attention.” He lightly swatted my butt. “Let’s get a move on.”
Reluctantly, I rolled out of bed—literally—and almost fell in the process. A quick shower later and I was awake enough to eat. We went to the diner downstairs and were in and out pretty fast. On the way up, we stopped at the market they had for road trip snacks then the valet to borrow a cart.
“I can’t believe how much we’re lugging home.” Daddy shook his head as we loaded it up. “We actually filled the cart.”
“Tae is gonna be so happy with all his new prezzies.” And now I was getting excited too. I couldn’t wait to play with all our new stuff. “Let’s go, Daddy.”
“There’s my boy. All it took was a hearty breakfast and a vat of coffee.”
Yeah, I wasn’t a morning person. No use denying that.
Somehow, we managed to get the cart down to the pickup area without anything falling off. “Wait here with the cart and I’ll pull the truck around,” Daddy said. Good thing because I was not sure this load would survive a trip across the asphalt. A few minutes later, Daddy’s truck came around the corner, stopping right in front of me.
He folded the back seat up, then we set the bags in place, careful of the ones with breakables in them. “Keep your backpack up front, Angel. It has our snacks and some toys for you to play with during the drive.”
“Okay, Daddy.” We buckled up and were on the road.
“Did you have a fun trip, Angel?”
“It was the best, Daddy. I had so much fun, and it was nice getting away, just the two of us.” Not that it hadn’t been just us at the cabins for a couple of months, but this was different. We were someplace new and exciting. “There’s so much to see and do there. Can we go back again sometime?”
“Absolutely. I agree, there was too much to see on one trip. We’ll have to make a list next time of where we want to go. Otherwise, we end up spending all our time in the midway.” I giggled. If I’d had it my way that’s where we would’ve stayed, but then I’d have missed the nummy chocolate stores. “Yeah, I figured you wouldn’t have a problem with that, silly boy.”
“I’m gonna text Tae that we’re on the way home.” He must’ve been busy since he didn’t text right back.
“Angel, why don’t you peek inside your backpack and see what Daddy put in there.”
“’Kay.” I started emptying it out. “Crayons, new coloring book, story time books. When did you have time to get all this, Daddy?”
“It’s a secret. You’ve been so busy anytime we went out that Daddy was able to be sneaky. What do we have for snacks in there.”
“Um, candy bars, sunflower seeds, water, and yummy beef jerky. You did good, Daddy.”
“Thanks, Angel. Why don’t you color Daddy a pretty picture for our fridge.”
“Okay, Daddy.” I had to put the hard reading books underneath the coloring one like a hard desk ‘cause the crayons weren’t working right. It was too soft. It was a while before I finally looked up. “Where’s the scary bridge, Daddy?”
“Way far behind us. We’re already in Arizona.”
“Sneaky Daddy, keeping his scared boy busy.”
