The ride home was pretty silent. Off and on I could hear light snores coming from Autumn. I could tell she had a good time tonight. She usually does; she is a social butterfly for sure. She was my total opposite. The yin to my yang.
The cool night air coming from the driver’s window swept over my skin and caused chill bumps to rise. I rubbed at my skin, and it reminded me of the effect Mr. Handsome had on my body. No man can say he gave me chills, turned me on or made me jealous. And yet he did and I don’t even know a thing about him. I blushed at me being slightly jealous of the girl in his lap. Jealousy wasn’t my lane and he succeeded at making me feel like pulling her out of his lap by her hair. Lord help me.
“Hey.”
“Hey.” I looked over at Autumn. She was leaning against the seat staring my way.
“This was so much fun. Thank you for getting me out the house. I guess I needed it as much as you did. I swear I am completely in a zone when I am dancing. It’s like I become someone else.” She raised her arm lazily and waved it around.
“I am glad you had a good time. This was fun. And I am happy when you are happy, believe it or not.”
“I want you to always be happy, Blythe. Not just be happy because of me.”
“I am happy Autumn.”
“Umm mmm, nope. No, you are not. You are my best friend in the world. And you my friend are miserable.” Her words slurred but I still found myself getting upset. It stung to hear her say it. My aunt always said, a drunk tells no tales, so I know this is how she really felt.
“Tell me how you really feel.” I uttered quietly.
“I always do. I love you B. Maybe you should start looking into new hobbies. Something that makes you happy.”
“Okay.” I responded bitterly. This was the second time in a week my favorite girls were telling me to get my shit together.
“I am serious. If for no other reason. Do it for me.” She reached her hand out and we locked pinkies before touching thumbs. A few seconds later she was snoring again. I chuckled and refocused my attention out the window. The rain started coming down making roaring thuds against the windows. The windshield wipers scraped across the glass quickly. It was damn near a flood out of nowhere and it coated the streets. The streetlights made it look like Christmas lights glowing against the pavement. I inhaled and exhaled deep. The smell was fresh like the city was getting cleansed and reset for a new day. I always loved the rain. It always made me feel like a fresh start.
Maybe it was time to try something new, cleanse my soul and find my fresh start. Whatever that may be.
Chapter Four
PHARAOH
Iwatched Blythe’s sexy ass carry her drunk assistant out the door. She doubled back to slip something in the pocket of the judge’s son’s jacket. She did the shit so slick if you would have blinked you would miss it. I honestly don’t even think his ass noticed.
I’ve been watching her ass all night, I couldn’t help it. It was something about little momma that had me captivated. I read her file at the office, but the company photo didn’t do her justice. She had her hair in its natural curls, big and sculpting her pretty face. She of course had on all black with a red lipstick. All night I watched her fight the urge to let loose and dance with her friend. Her shoulders swayed and she dangled that damn stiletto off her perfectly pedicured toes.
She kept a stoic demeanor, but I could see past that tough girl front. Ain’t gonna lie her ass had me intrigued at the way every man in the room looked her way but coward whenever she returned their gaze. Shit was comedy. Weak muthafuckas wanted to approach her but was scared, and yet every time I caught her eye she fumbled like a clumsy schoolgirl.
“Man, this shit live yo.” My baby brother Rajah spoke. He was bobbing his head to the music, the beat had just kicked in, and everyone was on their feet going crazy to it. I nodded my agreeance. My focus wasn’t on the lounge until now. The whole night I had been watching her. Not even the plethora of women in and out of our booth held my attention. Including the chick grinding in my lap right now. She was the third one to dance for me like this was a strip club. I could tell they all wanted to feel me against their ass. But my shit was only bricked with thoughts of Blythe. I tried to get a reaction out of her but if I did, she didn’t let it show in her expression any time we made eye contact. Shit pissed me off a little, but I knew I would have to move differently to impress her. For now, though I was over the easy pussy in my lap.
“A yo baby girl. What’s your name?” I leaned up and spoke to little momma dancing hard as fuck in my lap. Her little ass didn’t know what she was doing. She was grinding on my shit so hard I felt like she was giving my shit rug burn.
“Nakara.” She spoke in a high-pitched voice with a smile on her face like she knew she was going home with me tonight. I frowned and tapped her thigh to get up.
“You gotta go little momma, you got my shit raw as fuck in these jeans.” She looked back shocked at my words. I tapped her thigh demanding she move. “Hold up, real quick.” I held her in place, and she paused thinking I was changing my mind. “Do me a favor.” She nodded eagerly, ready to do whatever I said do. “Grow up before you sit in a real one’s lap tryna get picked, alright?” Her eyes ballooned at my words before she stormed off with her friend in tow.
“Yo! You ain’t showing these hoes no mercy tonight.” Rajah spoke downing his shot. He wasn’t paying attention to the females in our section either. More reason for they ass to move the fuck around. I stood up and adjusted my jeans. I rubbed my dick gently tryna get the feeling back in my shit. Shorty really thought she was doing something, grinding her boney ass on my shit like that. You could tell her young ass had no idea what she was doing. She was probably a virgin, and I don’t fuck with unseasoned pussy. I ain’t no fuckin’ director. Either know your role or kick rocks.
“How long you gonna be in town bro?” I took a long pull of the blunt in my hand before responding to my brother.
“Shit I don’t know. You know your mom’s ass. She tryna get me to take over the company. She’s ready to retire but she unsure about handing it over to someone that ain’t family. I got some loose ends to tie up back home, but it looks like I may be here to stay.” He nodded his approval at my words.
When my mom called two weeks ago asking me to come help her get her affairs in order I was lost on what she meant. Her and my pops started their accounting firm 17 years ago when I was a senior in high school. I had told them that I wanted to major in accounting in college, so they started a firm for me to join as soon as I was ready. They weren’t expecting to go global like they did. They contracted major clients and brought in billions every year.
When I graduated, I expanded the company to my college town of St. Louis and never returned home to live. McCallum accounting firm was operating successfully without any forced labor, so it caught me by surprise when my mom called. Like the good first born I am I came running when she needed me.
My pops got sick four years ago. He had stage three Sarcoidosis. He knew about it for years before it started taking over and he fell ill. He worked with the best doctors but over time it progressively got worse. My dad worked at Rocky flats nuclear weapons plant in Colorado after graduation. He was there for years exposing himself to toxins that eventually caused his illness. He met my mom some years later and he resigned to go back to school for accounting when they had me.
I was the oldest of three, my brother Rajah was three years younger, and my baby sis Thea was 5 years under me. My mom was big on Egyptian shit hints our crazy ass king and queen names. My brother Rajah was the wild middle child and rebelled all through high school. He eventually decided to become an Anesthesiologist which shocked the hell out of all of us. And our baby sister Thea was the angel child and a nurse that spent most of her time at my pop’s bedside.
