“Will you come back?” He looked up with a smirk, and I had to clear my throat. I didn’t realize how vulnerable and borderline desperate I sounded.

“If you want me to. But enjoy your family love. It’s been a long time coming.” He stood and pulled me in for a hug. He kissed my forehead sweetly and I melted in his embrace. I was falling, hard. “Call me later or in the morning. Whatever you want.”

“Okay.” I kissed his lips softly pulling him in to deepen it. Moans escaped me when he palmed my ass.

“Alright I’m out. Nasty ass.” He smacked my ass cheek and shook it before releasing me and heading towards the door.

“My apologies ladies. It’s nice to meet you both.”

“Nice to meet you baby.”

“Mmm hmm nice to meet you daddy long leg.” I chuckled shaking my head at my aunt.

After showering and brushing dick off my breath like my aunt said I returned to find my mom already preparing food. I felt a giddy feeling seeing her cooking again. Just like when my brother and I were little. She was wearing my Chef Bitch apron, and her and my aunt were two stepping to Frankie Beverly and Maze. I sat on the bar stool and watched in awe.

“Come on baby. Dance with your momma.” She waved her arms and swayed her hips. Saying fuck it, I joined her and my aunt. Closing my eyes I swayed and got lost in the music. The euphoric feeling of being carefree with my family. “That’s right baby. Let go. This is a new beginning.” My eyes watered and I forced back my tears. I was overjoyed and emotional. I needed this. All of this.

We danced and joked until the food was cooked. Momma made clam chowder and baguettes. My aunt prepared the salmon croquettes and salad. I attempted her recipe of fresh brewed sweet tea and lemonade. The conversation was endless. My aunt even brought out her photo album, and we reminisced about the past. My heart and belly were full by the time they were ready to head home.

“Yall can stay the night, its late.” I probed not wanting them to leave.

“It’s fine baby girl. Me and your aunt have to be up early to hit up the farmer’s market. I want fresh greens for dinner tomorrow night. You just make sure you bring that handsome man of yours with you.” She patted my cheek and pulled me in for a hug.

“Yea, girly. Make sure you bring king ding a ling with you. We have questions. Oh, and another letter came for you.”

“Oh my gosh Auntie. Stop.” I giggled taking the envelope.

“I’m just kidding baby girl. He seems like he’s good for you. Look at that smile.”

“Yes baby. I see it too. And I know it ain’t just because I am home. My baby girl is in love.” My eyes widened in shock. I didn’t love Pharaoh. Did I? “Don’t worry. You may not know it yet but it’s there. Your brother would be so proud of the woman you have become.” The room grew quiet, everyone thinking their own thoughts.

Damn Brayden.

Fifteen Years Ago

“Please, please Auntie.” I begged for what felt like the millionth time.

“Girl, will you get out my face?”

“If you say yes, I will leave you alone.”

“Why do you want to go up to that damn college town and stay a whole summer with two guys Blythe, you’re barely sixteen?”

“It’s not just two guys aunt Ruby. It’s just Brayden and his best friend. Come on. I just want to spend some time with my brother. I really miss him.” I could feel my eyes misting. I hardly get to see him since he moved and with my momma locked away, I feel lonely.

“I miss him to baby. Okay fine. But if there is any mess, I will be bringing your narrow ass straight back here. Your momma put me in charge of y’all and ain’t nothing bad gonna happen on my watch. You hear me?”

“Yes! I understand. Thank you, thank you, thank you!” I jumped up and down hugging her tight.

“Now go on.”

One-week later Brayden picked me up. I have been here three days, and I was having the time of my life. Party after party with my big brother. His best friend Wylder was coo too. Very cute for a white boy with his red curly hair and he was super nice to me too. They snuck me in everywhere. It was feeling like the summer to remember. Until one night when it turned to hell.

“Here let me help you.” Wylder lifted my arm over his shoulder and helped me into the house. Brayden was too drunk to barely walk his self to the door let alone help me.

“Thank you.”

“No problem.” He looked over at me smiling. I felt a little uncomfortable but appreciated his help. I drank way too much, and the room was spinning around me like a ride at a carnival. The steps were doubled and looked like they were a mile long.
