“He saidhe,” I said suddenly, halting the conversation around me. I looked up from the ground at all of them. “He saidfor him.”

“Who did?” Sebastian asked. Sebastian had been the farthest away from the director when he was arrested.

“Director Keller did.” I said slowly, rubbing my temples. I looked up at Marcus, who was closest to the director besides Dominic. “He didn’t sound like he was in charge.”

Marcus cursed. “Fuck. He sounded like someone taking the orders, not giving them.”

“Are you sure?” Alexander asked. “Are you sure he wasn’t just trying to throw suspicion off himself?”

I thought back to his body language and wording. “I don’t think he was.”

The director’s last words played in my mind. An itch that didn’t stop, only grew bigger.You’ll learn tonight.

Boom!

A deep, concussive sound, like dynamite at a construction zone, rocked through the air. What was that?

Alarms started blaring from the van, red lights flashing as Liam scrambled inside.

“Boss Lady.” Liam’s voice trembled as the color drained out of his face. Dread built in my gut. “HQ…it looks like…” His voice trailed off.

I was moving before he finished, climbing into the van and staring at his screen. Burning rubble of a building as familiar to me as my own home filled the feed.

“Maya!”
