He chuckles.

“Have fun, I’m sure they’ll save you soon, it’s not every day the CEO is trapped in the elevator and if it helps, think things like old werewolf grandma’s, that one girl I dated in college who used to have a fetish for sucking big toes, or even like when you watch sad little puppies at the pound and they get fed and you know it’s their last meal.”

I sigh and bang my head against the side of the elevator.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been so horrified and offended in my life, puppy killer.”

Ava gasps.

“No!” I yell.

“No, no, Gabe doesn’t kill puppies, or women, or like…people… this went downhill so fast I don’t even remember falling.” I grumble into the phone.

“Just get more people on it before it’s too late.”

And shit.

Ava starts to cry.

"Um, too late as in too late at night.” I explain.

“We aren’t dying!”

She starts to shake.

“O-okay.”

"Gabe, damn it!” I yell.

“What the hell is wrong with you?”

“Whoa, you were the one who said it out loud, not me. Have fun fanging, I mean banging, I mean, what? Hmmm, sorry losing reception, crackle, crackle, crackle, beeeeeeep.”

I shove my phone back into my suit coat and stare across at a terrified Ava. If she only knew what she’d overheard was the least of her worries, but at this point I don’t think the whole, I’m rich but also half werewolf thing is gonna slide, in fact it terrifies me more than I probably would terrify her.

I can imagine her face.

Her cries.

So much screaming.

Yeah, not fun.

"So…” I rub my hands together.

“That was Gabe.”

“Caught that.” Her lips tremble.

“Is he some sort of sociopath?”

“Oh.” I nod very seriously.

“He looks so nice on the outside, but you have no idea the things he’s done.”

She gasps.

“Has he gotten help?”
