A Message From June

Is this muhfucka on?

Damn, here we go again, and I know you’ve all been waiting. Things are different now, and the time has come to give you my all. Normally, I send you off with a trigga warning, but I asked if I could just talk to you all for a minute.

You already know what comes with my stories. Deep shit, crazy shit, trauma shit, gang shit, and smut shit. However, that’s besides the point. A nigga wants to express his gratitude to all of those who have rooted for me. Who chose me as their Book Boyfriend, who got me on their kindles and shelves, to those who make the post and keep those orange hearts flooding the comments. Sweetheart, from my gangsta heart to yours, thank you.

I want you to know that you will never find another nigga like me. A Casanova, a King, and a broken soul exploring what life, love, and family truly mean. The menace, plant daddy, the vegan Black man who can't be copied. There’s only one me and one story. I don’t want tears, but I know you’re going to do it anyway. So remember, I’m still the man who stole hearts, touched souls, and made you fall in love.

Chin up, smile, and remember this isn’t goodbye but a see you later, sweetheart. It will always be Zoo over everything, and just know I love you from here to the Calloverse.

Signing off,

Mr. June Chevy Fucking Calloway

June’s Entry

Place: California

Year: 2024

Time: 6:09 pm

Sweetheart,

We killed a nigga today. Yes, I sayWEbecause the moment you allowed yourself to be submissive for me was the moment I knew you would be my forever person. Watching you slowly uncover something that had been deep inside you turned a nigga on.

Zaria, today you unraveled something in me. Between you allowing me to taste that sweet vegan pussy to you showing off the different outfits, something in me changed. The change was small, but only you could do it. Although it’s just a party and you're choosing to go with me, I hope our beginning isn’t our end. You and I have something special. I can assure you that another nigga won’t compare. However, there is something you should know, something that might be a deal breaker. It’s something you should know if you choose me. The reality of breaking your precious heart, seeing you cry, and knowing I won’t get the moments I picture in my head is something my mouth won’t allow me to say. So, I decided to put it in a letter.

Zaria, a nigga has cancer, and it’s killing me slowly. This is not a moment for you to shed tears because by the time you read this, I will be long gone. I have no fight left in me. I’m just a broken nigga whose future was cut short. So, Zaria, if you do read this, just know that before my mouth physically tells you, my pen will. I love you. I loved you for over two years, and I love you even more knowing we share something beyond this universe.

Maybe God will look out for a nigga, and I can tell you when the time is right. Until then, let’s have fun tonight, and remember, Zaria, Chevy Promise to love will be from now until we meet in Calloverse.

Signed,

“Mr. Calloway,we didn’t think we would see you again. You were adamant about not coming in for check-ups.”

I had pushed the thought of returning to this cancer center far from my mind. After surgery, I had only visited once and convinced myself I was healed and would never need to enter a room like this again. The sensation of my body in agony, my mind exhausted, and feeling of being two breaths away from death was something I preferred not to dwell on, and being here challenged that. Yet, my twins were here, Samara was off at college, and Zaria was managing our business and running the household. I felt like I not only owed it to myself but also to my family to continue this journey.

Although Zaria hadn’t said anything, I knew she was worried that I wasn’t doing the work after the surgery. Now that things were finally settled with Bishop, and Zaria and I had been remarried for a few days, I wanted to start this second chance on the right foot. From the time I stepped out of the hospital, the monster inside me thrived. I felt untouchable, as if nothing or no one could touch me, until the idea of me losing my family was at stake. I’d promised to simmer down and truly give myself a chance. The only difference from then and now was that I knew I had a village behind me, and what damage I couldn’t do, they would.

It took a different type of courage to do shit like this. As the man many looked up to or depended on, I knew I couldn’t be that without being that to myself first. So, here I was with the doctor now standing in front of me, ready to give me news I hoped wouldn’t break a nigga’s heart.

He glanced over the charts and then looked up at me. “How are you feeling? Do you have any concerns?”

“I feel fine. I eat healthy, I exercise regularly, and I feed my brain what it needs.”

He nodded as he moved around the room. My eyes stayed on him as I studied his mannerisms. Eyes on the chart, slight hand tremble, swallowing deep, but didn’t seem nervous. “As of right now, everything looks good, but Mr. Calloway?—”

I shook my head because he knew the rules. He swallowed deeply. “—If you can, please fill out the form for me. It’s good to have on record your family history.”

I snatched the paper. This was the same question the doctor back in California asked when I found out I had the cancer. The idea of family being brought to the forefront bothered me. I wasn’t a man with that, and the more it was brought up, the more it irritated me. My family wasn’t blood, and no matter how much I explained, no one would understand.

I got up from the table, leaving the paper on it. “I don’t have a family.”
