There’s just no way he’d dare to do anything in this packed lecture hall. He only wants to taunt me, to get me hot and bothered. Well, he’s done that alright. I just need to try to keep my cool from now on.

He snorts. “Well, as you like. Usually I’m a bit more of a foreplay kind of guy…”

“Right,” I scoff. “I realized that when I woke up spread-eagled and got, well…”

“Railed by the thickest ax handle your pussy’s ever seen,” he supplements.

“Theonlyax handle my pussy’s ever seen.”

“Poor pussy,” he says, reaching under my skirt to pat the space between my legs possessively.

I gasp, squeezing my thighs together, but it’s too late. He knows.

“You’re a real little slut, aren’t you?” he gloats, grabbing my hand so I feel my arousal on his palm. Your panties are soaked.”

“I’ll send you the drycleaning bill,” I grumble. “It’s Agent Provocateur.”

“I have no idea what that is, but I bet it’s nice. Is it nice, Cass? Let me take a peak.”

He slips a finger up my skirt, stroking my upper thigh then fiddling with my waistband before trailing a thumb against the hem, inches away from my folds.

It feels too good. It feels way too good.

“Stop.”

“Tell me you’re not turned on, you little slut,” he whispers in my ear. “Tell me and I’ll stop.”

“I’m not turned on,” I snap, loudly enough that the person in front of me glances back. “I’m not turned by the pathetic loser who’s way too obsessed with me. Honestly, it’s just sad. I feel sorry for you, Finn.”

I can’t think of a more hurtful thing to say, but he only laughs softly. “Don’t be sorry, baby. It’s a lot of fun being obsessed with you.”

He turns back to the front, watching as the professor drones on. He never removes his arm from my shoulder, absentmindedly twirling strands of my hair between his fingers.

I tell myself I don’t react because there’s no point to it, but the truth is… it feels nice.

I guess Ihavebeen starved for touch since Daddy died. The one-night stands I had in the tundra didn’t come with cuddling. What’s wrong with enjoying just a little human contact? Especially since one of us is bound to die soon—I can’t confidently say which one anymore, after allowing myself to get outsmarted like that.

“Have you ever thought about what happens next?” he asks suddenly, startling me out of my thoughts.

“Hmm?”

“After I kill you, I mean.”

“Oh.” I crack my knuckles. “I guess I’d join you in Hell, since I’d have killed you first.”

“Ha. I mean the hyperfixation thing. The D. You know they gave it a name? The two drugs, when they’re given together. They call them the D, after Devil. Bet they didn’t really think it through. Imagine telling someone you’ve got plans to get the D tonight…”

“Finn.”

“Hmm?”

“Shut up.”

He chuckles, tightening his grip around my arms until I wince. “I mean, what happens once I’ve killed you? Or once you finish off those fifteen people on your list? Like… where does all that energy go?”

I’m not even surprised that he knows there are fifteen people left on my list. By now I’ve come to terms with the fact that he just seems to know… everything about me.

I’ll never admit it, but his question haunts me. It’s the reason I’m drawing out those kills. What comes after?
