“Your father’s case was all over the media. They must’ve seen you too.”
My heart dropped. “What else do you know?” I clutched my trembling hands in front of me.
“Whoever it was, cared more about getting Logan in trouble than about you or your safety,” Kaden replied.
“But, it wasn’t mailed to your father directly, instead, it was mailed to his law firm under a company name,” Chase explained with a hint of confusion, as though he didn’t quite understand it.
“What company?” My head snapped up.
“Greene Haven,” Chase answered, and it was as though the entire world around me had stopped as my body stilled.
Clicks echoed in my brain as I stared ahead allowing the puzzle pieces to slip into place one by one.
Steadily, my heart rate increased, and adrenaline pumped through my veins as my eyes stung with tears of anger.
“Dakota, did you tell anyone?” Chase questioned.
My fingers balled into fists at my side. “Fuckingcunt.”
THIRTY-TWO
DAKOTA
I wasn’t the violent type, but, when someone hurt the people I love, I didn’t mind clearing things up. Even if it meant resorting to violence.
I hurried to the front door, hopping into my car as I ignored both men calling out to me.
My hands gripped the steering wheel as my car sped down the road. Rage clouded my vision and all I could see were my hands wringing her neck using every ounce of strength inside of me.
I needed to get to her first. She had possibly just ruined Logan’s career, and my campus reputation by reporting this. We were perfectly fine before her, and now—
I stepped out of the car, slamming the door behind myself as I marched to the front door.
I banged my fist on the door with force until it finally swung open.
“Dakota—” I cut her off with my fist smashing into her jaw. “What the fuck!” she groaned, stumbling back and I stepped into the house.
“Josie Greene?” I said, shoving her back into the wall. “Daughter of Lolita Greene. Dean of my campus?” I said, throwing another punch, knocking her to the floor. “Lolita Greene…” I said, getting on top of her. “CEO of Greene Haven.”
She slapped me across the face, wiggling out of my grip but I pinned her wrists on either side of her head.
“Get off me!” She fought back.
I wrapped my hands around her throat, squeezing hard, and her eyes bulged out of her head with fear. She dug her nails into my forearms and I winced in pain, pulling away but she kicked me off her. I flew back, crashing against the wooden table in pain and glass shattered at my side.Fuck.
“You’re smarter than you look,” she winced with a heaving chest as she tried to lift herself.
With frustration, I launched for her again but she grabbed a glass vase, smashing it into the side of my head.
I collapsed to the floor and heavy footsteps marched down the stairs. “What the hell is going on here?” Anthony barked, rushing over to help Josie to her feet.
I watched the blood pour from her nose, puddling on the floor.
Feeling lightheaded, I got to my feet with a racing heart.
“How did you know?” she asked, standing on weak legs in Anthony’s arms and ran the back of her hand across her nose.
“You’re hiding behind his last name.Sinclair,” I said, stepping back. “And you told me your mother owned Greene Haven—or rather youbraggedabout it. That night. I remembered.”
