“Grandma!”

I thought Milo was channeling my thoughts until I looked up and saw my mom standing next to her car in the driveway of our house with what looked like a hundred gift wrapped boxes. I gasped and turned to look at Jud, thinking he’d be just as shocked as I was, but he was grinning as he parked.

He looked over at me and winked. “Merry Christmas, sweet girl.”

I grabbed his face and kissed him quickly before throwing open the door and hurrying out to see my mom. “Mom! You’re here!”

She froze when she looked at me and then burst into loud sobs. Dad popped out from behind the boxes and frowned at her. “Mandy? What’s-”

I felt just as emotional as Mom when she pointed at me and Dad’s eyes went as round as saucers. I closed the distance between us and the three of us hugged while Mom continued sobbing and making incoherent sounds at my stomach.

When she was finally able to speak, she cupped my face and pulled me closer. “Look at you. My baby. I’m so happy, Ada. I barely even care that you didn’t call me and tell me right away!”

“You were on your cruise. I didn’t want to take you away from your fun with Dad.” I wiped my eyes and laughed when Milo all but climbed Dad’s legs. “You better say hello before he revolts.”

Collin and Joe walked out of the house, matching smiles on their faces. Joe pulled me into his arms and stroked my hair out of my face. “Merry Christmas, baby. We might’ve fudged the cruise dates when we told you when they’d be home.”

I hugged him tight. “Thank you so much. This is the best surprise ever.”

A car pulling up behind us in the driveway drew our attention and I watched as Kendall climbed out and slammed the door shut. She huffed and looked pissed until she turned and spotted us. “Ada! Grandma and Grandpa!”

“And Dad...” Joe muttered before letting me go so I could rush to Kendall.

“Kenny! You’re here early! Is everything okay?” She’d been trying to bond with her mother over the holidays and she wasn’t supposed to be back until after Christmas. I pulled her into a tight hug and laughed when she grunted and pulled back to look at my stomach. “Yeah, I’m big now. Milo already let me know.”

She laughed. “You’re so much bigger than when I left. It’s crazy! Beck is going to lose her mind. She’s decided she wants to be an OB-GYN.”

I cupped her cheek and smiled. “Stop it. You’re only seventeen. I’m not ready for talk about what you’re going to be when you grow up.”

Mom pulled Kendall away from me and into her own hug. “Now you know what it feels like when your baby leaves the nest.”

“No one is leaving any nest.” Joe looked like he’d sucked on a sour candy. “Okay? You’re going to live here with us until we die of old age. Got it?”

Kendall pushed at his shoulder and gave him a quick hug. “God, Dad, it’s Christmas. Don’t be so morbid.”

I watched her go to my dad and Milo to hug them both and then gasped when the door flew open and twin tornadoes came running out of the house with Kitten chasing after them. Just under fourteen, Alex and Avery had shot up with a growth spurt that broke my heart a bit.

“He’s got cat shit in his mouth and he’s trying to kiss us!” Alex sprinted behind his dad as Avery hid behind Jud.

“Language! Jesus.” Collin saw Kitten coming his way with what looked to be an actual mouth full of cat shit. “What the fuck? No, Kitten! No! Oh, god!”

I winced as I watched Kitten open his mouth and rub it against Collin’s arm. Kitten had sort of become the family dog and while my parents were gone, he was ours. He hadn’t calmed down and it didn’t seem like he was going to. When Kendall brought home two kittens she’d rescued with Beck, things just got even wilder.

Speaking of the kittens, I covered my eyes as I watched Deranged sprint out of the house and run after Kitten. Kitten yelped and went running around the house with Deranged chasing him. Kendall ran after Deranged while Little Joe, aptly named for his resting bitch face, slipped out of the house and ran in the other direction. The twins went running after Kendall, Deranged, and Kitten. Milo went running after Little Joe. Collin was dry heaving as he held his shit covered arm out away from his body. Mom and Dad were laughing so hard they were crying. And Joe and Jud were staring me down with matching looks of ‘this is your fault’ on their faces.

“I didn’t do this.” To be fair, comparing the Carrington Estate right then to the Carrington Estate I’d showed up to after they’d gotten me fired might’ve made it seem like things being crazy were a bit my fault. Before me things had been so quiet in the house. After me... Well. Things were a circus. It wasmycircus, though.

Joe rolled his eyes and sighed before pulling me in for a kiss. “You did it all, baby, and I can’t thank you enough for it.”

The End.
