“Mm . . . okay. I guess.”

“You guess?”

“Anything to avoid fighting with my beautiful wife. I love you so much.”

“I love you even more. If you do so happen to impregnate me with triplets, then we can have one more, but no more than that.”

“Cool.”

We continued walking hand-in-hand in the cool breeze of the evening. I was thankful that it relieved us of the pressure of the humidity that hung around us in the day. It was hot in June, andI was thankful that we had spent most of our time in the water when we weren’t making love.

Our days had been spent snorkeling, jet skiing, paddleboarding, and hanging out on the beaches. It was a beautiful destination, and I was so thankful that he had chosen this location to honeymoon. I couldn’t ask for a sweeter, more wonderful man to be my husband, my protector, and my provider.

When we were kids, I told him that I wanted to travel when I grew up. He asked where, and I said all over the world. He asked, “How about Turks and Caicos?” I asked, “Where?” with a crazy look on my face.

I had no idea what he was talking about, so he spent the next hour educating me and showing me pictures. I fell in love with the destination, strictly on how he spoke about it and how attentive he was to me. I told him that I wanted to go there one day, and he promised to take me when he grew up and became rich.

“What’s on your mind?” he asked when we returned to our villa in Turtle Tail.

“Nothing much.”

“Yes, there is. I can sense it. You were quiet on the way back here. It’s not about the kids, is it?”

“No. I’m truly grateful to be married to you, and bearing your children will be a blessing.”

“Then what is it?” he asked, unwrapping my wrap skirt and turning me around so that he could unzip my leotard.

I sighed heavily, and he kissed my shoulder.

“I’m not certain that I want to continue doing the work that I’m doing. It’s cool, it’s fun, and it pays decent, but I don’t see myself being someone’s personal shopper for the rest of my life. I want so much more, Drè.”

“Then do what you want to do. You don’t have to do anything at all, and I would be happy to take care of you for the rest of your life, but I know you better than that. You worked hard to get to where you were, and you were happy with your career from everything I’ve heard. So what is it that you want to do now?” He spun me around and stared into my eyes. “If money, time, education, or any other variables weren’t a factor, what would you want to do?”

“I want back in HR. That’s it. I love what I do, and I don’t want to do anything else but that.”

His eyes lit up, and a slow smile curved his lips upward. “Baby.” He kissed me deeply and thoroughly, and his hands caressed my back and dropped down to squeeze my hips. I almost gave into the moment, but my curiosity over what incited the passion won out.

“What?”

“I have a thought, but hear me out first. You know that we’re building the location in Cherokee Springs for my company. We’ve got the groundwork laid out, the location for the building, and the construction firm in place. We’ve got lawyers and engineers, but we’re missing something critical, . . . something we’ve been trying to figure out the best route to go all along.”

“What’s that?”

“We have no HR, no recruitment, and no one to guide us. We’ve been interviewing firms, but we’re not satisfied with what we have in front of us yet. You’re our answer, baby. Silas has been pushing me to ask you all along, and I didn’t think you wanted to go that route again. I mean, you seemed so happy with the work that you’ve been doing with your clients and all. But now that I know you do want back in, it’s the perfect answer.”

I shook my head. “Baby, I’m not certain that’s a good idea.”

“Why not? It’s the best idea.”

“Us working together?”

“I think it’s the perfect plan. We both get what we want. We lay some ground rules, of course, but afternoon sex in the boss’s office has never sounded sexier to me.”

I giggled. “Of course, that’s where your head would go. Do you think it would work?”

“Only we can decide if it will or not. It’s completely up to us.”

The idea took root in my heart, and I couldn’t deny that, although I could see issues, I saw more benefits than not. I wanted to make it work, and I knew that I could benefit his company, and we would make a great team.
