I can’t even say anything.
Shelby’s head is in pieces, brain, blood, teeth and hair cover the couch and the floor as well as my outfit.
Carlie’s head is still intact, but I can see her skull caved in at the back of her head, I can see pieces of brain between the pieces of skull, still pulsing. I wonder if that means she’s awake. My hand shakes as I reach for Carlie to check for a pulse, but Leon stops me by gently grabbing my wrist. “How about you take Sean to the car?” He says calmly to me. I nod, letting Leon take the bat from me as he hands me the gun.
I don’t think I want to know if Carlie is still alive, but I have the feeling that if she is, she won’t be for long. Leon will handle that.
I switch my focus to Sean. “Get up, Sean. We’re going to the car.” I say sternly. He laughs at me, rolling his eyes and shaking his head like I’m not the one with a gun pointed at him. “Fuck you, Maeve. I was nice to you! You’re a fucking psychopath! I should have never let Carlie move you in here!” He says loudly.
I open my mouth to respond, but I’m met with blood splashing on my face. I see Sean drop to the ground and Leon standing behind him with the bat in his hands and a crazed look in his eyes.
Blood pools on the floor, soaking the carpet and slowly making its way toward me. “Step back, ma fleur.” Leon says calmly to me. And I do, I’m shaking. I can’t believe I just possibly killed two people. But mostly, I’m surprised that I don’t feel upset.
Leon grips onto my shoulders, squeezing lightly. “Go upstairs. I'll meet you there in a minute.” He says calmly to me. I nod, heading upstairs as if I’m on autopilot.
Everything after that seems to go in slow motion, but it doesn’t feel like I’m the one living these things. Leon and I take a shower together, he carefully washes every inch of me, scrubbing the blood and brains off while also letting the cool water run over my sore butt. He changes into an outfit of Sean’s while I change into an outfit of Shelby’s.
I'm just standing in the wreckage of what used to be my living room in a daze while Leon scrambles around. He's packing… What is he doing?
He grabs a few laundry baskets of clothes, kitchen appliances, toiletries, and a few food items from the pantry.
He sits everything by the front door and takes my hand, guiding me outside and sitting me on the top step of my old life. “Stay here, ma petite fleur.” He says calmly.
I finally feel like Leon is right, I have the same darkness in me as him. Maybe he was right, the broken pieces of ourselves can fit together.
But how am I supposed to bring a baby into our twisted world?
Chapter 51
Leon’s POV
It works in my favor that Maeve seems to be in shock about what had happened.
Fuck, I can’t wait to get her home and fuck this gorgeous woman to sleep. I should not have been so turned on by the sight of my girl losing her shit like that. But she destroyed the entire downstairs!
The walls have holes, the coffee table is shattered, the TV is caved in, and of course the bodies. Watching my girl cave Shelby’s skull in with a bat until pieces of her brain flew all over the room, it was a beautiful sight. Watching her hit Carlie was just as nice.
The bitch was still alive, she reached for Maeve, but I wasn’t about to let her see that. I was worried it would scare her to know thatCarliewas still alive and suffering. So instead I waited until Maeve was situated on the front steps and snapped Carlie’s neck.
I didn’t tell Maeve what the plan was here, fuck this wasn’t the plan at all. But I can handle this. I know exactly how to fix a crime scene to keep any suspicion off of us.
My girl doesn’t walk back in the door, but police officers storm in right after I started doing CPR on Sean’s dead body. I know he’s dead, I made sure of it before calling. But I had to make it look like I am trying to save these kids. “Are you Dr. Aldon?” Heasksme.
A few paramedics rush in behind the cops, focusing on the two girls dead on the couch. I nod, plastering on the face I know the cop expects to see. Professional but upset. “Yes, I am. I felt a faint heartbeat in this one, the other two are gone. I’ve been doing resuscitations since I called.” Ilie.
A paramedic takes over for me, attempting to revive Sean. I know it will do no good, but I made sure that if by some miracle they can get a heartbeat, he was dead long enough to have no brain activity.
The officer and I step outside to see another officer attempting to talk to Maeve. She’s shaking slightly and not answering them at all. I rush to her side, sitting on the steps next to my girl and wrap my arm around her shoulders.
“Dr. Aldon. Can you tell me what happened and why you’re here at an active crime scene?” The officer asks me. I sigh, focusing on Maeve. She looks at me a little panicked. I didn’t explain to her that I called the police or what my plan was. I needed her to panic and shut down for this lie to work.
“This is my fiance, Maeve. She used to live here, but two months ago when we got engaged she and I moved in together. She left a few things here for her roommates to use until they could buy their own. I said they could keep the stuff, Imakeenough anyway.” I say with a charming laugh, one the female officer eats up.
“We just stopped by to pick up the last of Maeve’s things and invite the group to dinner at our place. I didn’t think that’s what we were going to walk into.”I explain. I pretend to look upset, squeezing Maeve into my side further. “How are you feeling, ma petite fleur?” I ask quietly, but just loud enough for the officer to hear me comforting my girl.
The officers and I talk for a few minutes, getting a full report about how we walked into the apartment, letting ourselves in with Maeve’s key, and finding the three dead. I explain how Maeve screamed, explaining any noises any neighbors may have reported, and ran outside. I explain how I made sure Maeve was okay first before running in and attempting to do life saving measures on the three. The officers even thanked me for trying my hardest to save them, offering me a jacket since my shirt was now covered in blood again from pretending to try to save Sean.
I love how these guys ate this shit up. I know I can explain anything they may find. Nobody in this building has a camera on their door, there are no security cameras on this street and my phone and car's GPS are not turned on right now.
