I giggle at that. “I’m kind of surprised, too. But why are they here? They got together on Love Behind the Voice.”

“I know. And that was all thanks to Realr,” he says and I turn to look at him.

“How so? That’s one of those blind dating shows,” I say. “None of the people know who they’re talking to until they already have a connection.” I use air quotes around the word, and Luca just smirks.

“Well maybe the contestants don’t know, but the producers do. And what tool do you think they use to find people to shove in those rooms who actually match well together?” he asks.

“You?” I ask, and Luca nods with a smirk. “But I thought people try out for those shows?”

“Nah. Too much to filter. We do the filtering for them,” he says, and I go back to staring at the couple again.

“So Lisa and Colton are the product of an algorithm, not a genuine connection.” I say.

Luca looks down at me as he slips his arm around me, and I look back up at him.

“Just because there’s an algorithm involved doesn’t mean it’s not real,” he says and there’s a beat of static in the air around us.

“Get a room, you two!” Luca’s friend Matt’s voice breaks through our moment like a rock through a window. I turn to look over at him, my cheeks flushed. Luca doesn’t let go of me. If anything, he holds me closer.

“We already have one,” Luca says, and Matt laughs.

“That you do,” he says before turning to focus on me. He’s tall, nearly as tall as Luca, with light blond hair and green eyes. He looks a little younger than Luca, but not by much. He also has laugh lines where Luca has frown lines, which I find pretty funny. Not that I mind a brooding man.

“So you are the infamous Olivia Ramone,” he says. “I always wondered what you’d be like.”

“Oh, really?” I ask, “So you’ve heard about me?”

“Of course,” Matt says. “Who in the great wide matchmaker world hasn’t heard of the infamous Olivia Ramone?”

Infamous?

Suddenly it hits me as Matt smiles at me. They know I run the Unmatched podcast. I don’t know why I hadn’t worried about it until now, but if they know about it, they may have listened to it. And if they’ve listened to it, they might also be aware of the latest series.

My lips must be flipped into a frown because he reaches out and clasps my shoulder softly. He’s still got a cocky grin on his face. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.”

Won’t tell anyone?

“Matt, don’t you have another woman to bother?” he asks. “One that isn’t with me?”

“Sure, sure,” he says. “You kids have fun.’

With that, he walks off, immediately making small talk with another group of people. Luca shakes his head, and I just swallow hard.

“Sorry about that, he’s a bit wild,” Luca says.

“I see that,” I say with a forced smile and tone to match.

“Don’t worry about him. He’s kind of an idiot,” he tells me, taking a sip of his drink.

“I thought he was your best friend,” I say.

“He is. But that doesn’t mean he’s not a pain in the ass sometimes,” he says and I laugh.

“I get that…” I say, taking a sip of my own drink. It’s only coconut water with fresh fruit.

“I bet,” he says and both of us stop for a moment.

Sadie did say that he knows we are friends.
