I literally don’t have words. Because, what the hell? And why? And for what reason?
“You think she knows who I am?” I ask. “Fuck yeah, she knows who you are,” he answers almost immediately. “You’re enemy number one!”
Something in my chest grows tight. And at the same time, my stomach sours. “You think she had a motive?” I ask.
He shrugs. “Hard to say. But easy to find out.”
With that he starts typing on his phone. I know what he’s doing. He’s social media stalking her. And I let him. Half because I’mnot too excited about what he’s going to find and half because I’m angry.
Suddenly he stops. “Holy shit…” he says again.
“What?!” I ask.
“No way…”
“What?”
“Check this out,” he says, showing me his phone. It’s a photo of Livv–Olivia–with…
“That’s Sadie,” I say.
“The girl you just fired,” he says.
“But how do they know each other?” I ask.
“Read the caption,” Matt nods up at me.
“They’re friends.”
“Hashtag best friends for life…” he says.
I set his phone down as my brain wraps itself around our recent discoveries.
“No way there’s not a motive,” he says.
“Yeah…” I let out.
“So much for a second date,” he grimaces before standing up to leave. “Sorry, boss.”
“Unless…” I say, and he stops, looking back over his shoulder.
“Unless?”
I pause for a moment. I never do things like this. I never play games. But…
“I am the CEO of Realr,” I say.
“Damn straight,” he says.
“The most successful dating app in dating app history.”
“Five hundred million strong,” he says.
“No one catfishes me and gets away with it,” I say, and Matt grins.
“Hell no,” he agrees. “So…what are you going to do?”
I think about it for a moment before answering. “I’m going to beat her at her own game.”
