“Well, maybe I can help you decide,” he says and before I can say anything else, his lips cover mine in a kiss that nearly brings me to my knees. It probably would have too if Luca hadn’t wrapped his arms around me, pulling me against his toned body.
When we finally pull apart, I have no breath left in me. And guessing by my answer, I have no better judgment either.
“You know what, on second thought, I think I’m free tonight.”
Chapter 5
Olivia
Usually, when I am in a sexy man’s penthouse for the first time, I don’t just kick my shoes off and make a B-Line for the bathroom. Not that I have been inside a lot of penthouses that belong to sexy men or otherwise. But even if this was normal for me, the urgency of this particular situation would be a first.
And right now, I need to talk to Sadie. Because this date has gone off course enough that I need to know exactly what the game plan is.
Sadie: Girl! I’ve been waiting for you to text. I need the deets, ASAP.
Olivia: About that…
Sadie: OMG. I was right about him, wasn’t I? So what happened? Did he wine you? Dine you? Ditch you? That dick. It’s early too! Knowing him, he had another chick lined up. Maybe we can hunt her down! Team up and John Tucker Must Die his ass.
Olivia: Actually. The date isn’t over.
I bite my lip, holding my breath.
Olivia: I’m…at his house.
Sadie: What?
Olivia: He invited me over.
Sadie: OMG…
Olivia: Listen. It wasn’t my idea. He invited me over for wine.
Sadie: This is perfect!
I blink. I’m really starting to wonder if sake is a no-go for me because the plot twists in this date just keep getting crazier.
Sadie: He’s invested. He’s really going all out on this one. Play along. The steeper the climb, the harder the fall.
Olivia: Play along? Define play along.
Sadie: Follow his lead!
I put my phone away and take a breath before walking back into the kitchen, just in time to see Luca popping the cork.
“Oh, look at that,” I smile. “There really is an eight-year-old bottle of wine.”
“Did you think I was lying?” he asks, pouring two glasses and handing me one.
“Guys will say a lot of things to get a girl to go home with him,” I say skeptically.
“Guys will also say a lot of things when they are interested in going on a date with a woman,” he says. And as we sip our wine, I am struggling to keep it together. I am also having a hard time keeping my hands to myself.
“You want to sit on the couch and talk?” he asks.
He still smells like cedar. But now he also smells like wine. And I can’t help but wonder if he tastes like wine.
Sadie said, play along…
