I was ready and wet, my body soft and eager for him. I was always ready for Lucas. I always wanted him. I thought maybe I alwayswould.

Feeling the way he sank inside me, the way he filled me, I couldn't imagine ever wantingtostop.

I clamped my knees to his sides, angling my hips up to take more. Lucas and I had sex almost every way we could—fast and hard, slow and sensual, against a wall, on the floor. I loved it all. Lucas had patience. Even when he was in the mood for fast, he was undercontrol.

Not this time. I had a heartbeat of time to adjust to the sweet stretch of his cock inside me before he thrust his hips hard, filling me, fucking me fast. Just over the edge of rough, he slammed into me over and over, grinding into my clit, driving me higher until I was pantingbeneathhim.

I held onto his shoulders, pleasure blanking out my brain. The first orgasm was a slap, taking me under in a tsunami of bliss that hit out of nowhere. Lucas didn't stop, didn't evenslowdown.

Blinded by sensation, I reached up to kiss him. At the touch of my lips, he went wild, claiming my mouth in a kiss as rough as his fucking. Low growling sounds rumbled in his chest, the possession of his lips and his loss of control sending me flying over the edgeagain.

He stiffened in my arms and came with a lowshout.

"Charlie. Fuck,Charlie."

I held him against me as he came, the thump of his heart against mine so intimate it brought tears to my eyes. His body relaxed and I became aware of wetness between mythighs.

We hadn't used acondom.

Shit.

Lucas pulled away, realizing our mistake only a secondafterme.

"It's okay," I said when he turned green eyes filled with guilt in my direction. "As long as you're clean, it's okay. I'm on the pill, and I haven't had sex since I was last tested—exceptwithyou."

"I'm clean," he saidimmediately.

"Okay. Thenwe'reokay."

We'd gone from the most intense sex of my life to chilly and awkward in the space of a minute. I rolled out of bed, suddenly desperate to bealone.

"Bathroom?" I asked. Lucas pointed to a door on the other side of the room. I shut the door behind me, trying to ignore the ache in my heart. This would be so much easier if we'd stuck tohavingsex.

Lucas's bathroom was masculine and plush, with river rock detailing around his enormous shower and more of those cool poured concrete countertops holding custom sinks of amberglass.

Not eager to face Lucas yet, I stepped into the shower. It took a minute to figure out the dual shower heads, but once I did, I was tempted to stay all night. I didn't. Keeping my hair out of the spray, I washed my body with Lucas's soap, the scent spicy and deep, and braved the bedroomagain.

Lucas was tucked into his king size bed, taking the side closest to the door, as he had at myhouse.

"I put your stuff in the drawers closest to the door,"hesaid.

"Thanks." I got a nightshirt, trying not to enjoy the way my things looked neatly stacked in Lucas'sdresser.

It doesn't mean anything, I remindedmyself.

Crawling into bed, I rolled to my side and closed my eyes, pretending to sleep. Lucas said nothing, just pulled me across the mattress until he could tuck me intohisside.

His body surrounding me with warmth, I fellasleep.

Sometime later, I woke to the discordant tone of two phones sounding the same alarm, but out of sync. My phone and Lucas's phone. The perimeteralarm.

The perimeter alarm at myhouse.

I shot upright in bed to see Lucas grabbing his phone off the nightstand. He checked the screen, scowled, anddialed.

I couldn't make out everything he was saying as he pulled on his clothes, the phone pinned between his shoulder and his ear. When I started to get up, he spun on his heel to face me. Pointing a finger at me, he wordlessly commanded me tostayput.

Iignoredhim.
