“Both?”
“I don’t think that will work, sweetheart. I vote for shower then bed. C’mon. I’ll help you.” He half-carries, half-drags me into the bathroom and pushes the buttons to start our fancy shower.
I toss my clothing into the hamper, walk under the rainfall shower head and groan. Nothing in the history of the world has ever felt this good.
Tony chuckles as he steps in behind me. He washes and conditions my hair while I stand there. I can’t recall ever being this tired, and it doesn’t make sense. It was a rough few days, but nothing all that taxing except being up overnight during the mission. But we’ve done that before.
“You’re thinking too hard.”
“I’m just trying to figure out why I’m so exhausted.”
He leans down and kisses my forehead. “It’s not just being tired. It’s the aftereffects of whatever memories you’re having.”
My face tilts up toward his. “How did you know?” I hadn’t said a word about my memories coming back, not even to Mellie. I need time to process, and probably talk to a professional.
“I know you sweetheart. I saw the look on your face when you turned around with Bethanne in your arms.”
“Well, fuck. I don’t want to talk about it.”
“I would never make you. But I’m here if you decide you want to. Although, I still think you should find a therapist to talk to.”
I close my eyes and nod. I will, just not now. Maybe not for a few days or weeks. Not until I can talk about them without losing my mind. When I open them again, I look up at the love of my life. “I love you. I think I’ve loved you since that first day at the barbecue.”
“Oh really?” he smirks. “I loved you as soon as you smiled at me. I was a goner before you said a word to me.”
“Show off.” I smile. “Let’s get married. Not today, but we’ll figure out a date. We can do it here in the house and invite all our friends. Oh, let’s invite the Browns and your family, too.”
“Are you sure? I don’t want you to feel forced. I think I still have groveling to do for buying this house behind your back.”
“Nah, we’re good. I forgive you. Now I want our forever—together.”
“Oh baby, it will be my everlasting pleasure to spend eternity with you.”
“Yay. Now I need the bed, before I fall asleep standing up.”
“As you wish, baby, always.”
Before I realize what he’s doing, he scoops me up in his arms and carries me out of the shower. We dry off and drop into bed. Ireally want to make love, but it’ll have to wait until we wake up…sometime next week.
The End… for now
