Interesting that in the face of my whole world crashing down on my head I can still have vapid thoughts like that.

I take a breath and open the door just a sliver. I peek outside to make sure that it was indeed Adam I saw. Once I confirm he’s the one, I slip out the door and close it behind me.

There’s no way I can let him into my apartment. Brady’s in bed, but that’s just too close for comfort for me.

“Adam, what are you doing here?”

He shrugs. “I just dropped by to say hello.”

My brow tenses. “That’s a little stalker-y.”

He smirks at me like he used to do all the time when we were kids. “Probably…”

“How do you even know where I live?”

“I got your address from your file at GNN.”

“Are you allowed to do that?” I fold my arms.

“I don’t know, but I did.”

He stares at me expectantly, but I’m not exactly sure what it is he wants from me.

“Okay, you said your hello. Is there anything else I can help you with?”

“Aren’t you going to invite me in?” he chuckles. “Your mother would be horrified if she knew you were receiving a guest at the door.”

“Considering this guest showed up unannounced, I think she would understand.”

“Are you really not going to invite me in?”

“I’m sorry. I was just getting ready to get into bed. I have an early morning tomorrow.”

“Come on, it’ll just be for a little while.”

He brushes past me and forces his way into my apartment.

I spin around and follow him in. I feel like my hair is on fire.

I’m counting on Noodle to attack Adam before he advances too far into the apartment, but the second she sees him she yelps, jumps off the couch, and runs screaming from the room.

I roll my eyes. That dog is literally all bark and no bite.

“What the fuck is wrong with you? You can’t just push your way into a person’s home.”

“What’s the big deal? I just wanted to see where you live.”

“Well, I didn’t invite you in. You need to leave. Right now!”

“Can I at least have a drink of water?” he asks.

“No, you can’t.”

I step forward and grab his forearm and start dragging him out of the apartment. “You have to leave now.”

He actually digs his heels into my carpet. “Why are you in such a hurry to get me out of here?”

Just at that moment, a small voice comes from behind us.
