She walked out of the solar with Keara on her heels.
“Are ye playing matchmaker, Adam?” Kali perched her hand on her hip.
“Nay,” he denied.
“Did ye no’ say just yesterday that the best way to keep me sisters safe is to find husbands for them?”
“’Twas just a fleeting thought.”
“And who do ye hope James is a match for?”
“Ariana, of course.”
“And if she falls in love with James, are ye willing to deed me family’s lands to Ariana so our clan can start over and thrive again?”
Adam rubbed his chin. “Does Ariana know anything about beekeeping?”
“Nay, but she’s quick-witted and sure to learn.”
“Ye want me to make James a chieftain?” Adam seemed to frown at the thought. “James has just found his confidence as a captain. To see him go… Ye ask much of me, wife.”
“One of the men ye trust most, the one who would keep me sister safest.”
Adam took Kali’s hand and kissed the inside of her wrist. “I’ll think about it, me beautiful, fire-haired lass.”
Kali wrapped her arms around his waist. “Let me help ye clear yer mind, Laird MacKay.”
“’Tis an unfair tactic, lass. Using yer feminine wiles to get what ye want.”
“Did ye not use yer masculine charms to win me?”
He gave her a lopsided grin. “That’s verra different.”
“How so?” she asked.
“I’m yer chieftain. Ye will do as I say.”
“Oh…” Her temper flared, but Adam silenced her complaint with a swift kiss and chuckle.
The man knew how to get a rise out of her, and she loved him dearly for it.
