Paris nodded. “I’d love to marry you and become a new family.”

A loud cheer rang out from the house. Paris turned around, surprised to see Richard’s mom and their friends coming outside. “Were they hiding inside all this time?”

Richard nodded. “Mom was keeping everyone quiet.”

Andrea hurried across the yard and hugged Paris. “Congratulations. Are you all right?”

“I think so. I’m feeling a little overwhelmed.”

“Enjoy tonight. You can catch your breath tomorrow.”

John handed Paris a glass of orange juice and Richard a glass of champagne. “I’d like to make a toast.”

Everyone smiled as they held the glass they’d brought outside with them.

“Congratulations on your engagement. We’re excited and humbled to be part of tonight’s celebration. Enjoy your lives together and live each day to its fullest. To Paris, Richard, and Jack.”

Everyone one raised their glass. “To Paris, Richard, and Jack.”

And with the sound of their friends’ voices carrying on the still night air, Paris and Richard celebrated their love for each other. Now and forever.
